Competition Countdown: Nick Taber

Competition Countdown: Hum A Cappella

Hum uses only their voices to create a blend of South Asian and American musical culture. Since their founding in 2001 (making them the first group of their kind in the South), Hum has evolved into a group of diverse vocalists who love to share their love of music through performances, competitions, and studio album recordings. They will be competing in the A3 finals on Apr 16th. The team won awards for Outstanding Solo in a South Asian Song, Outstanding Solo in a Non-South Asian Song, AND Outstanding Arrangement! Congrats! Competition Countdown: Dhunki A Cappella
18/04/2022 Duración: 10minIn Hindi, ‘Dhunki’ means ‘spellbound.’ The name also contains the Hindi word ‘Dhun,’ which means ‘tune’ or ‘melody.’ This Hindi name symbolizes this group’s focus on the areas of South Asian music and culture. Their goal is to spread their culture throughout the community by the means of a unique style of music in which Eastern and Western themes collide in intricately arranged mashups. This style will be showcased to the max at A3 finals. The team came in first place this year and won a special award for outstanding visual performance! Congrats! Competition Countdown: Dhamakapella
18/04/2022 Duración: 11minBased out of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH, Dhamakapella is a South Asian fusion a cappella group. They derive their influences from Indian classical, contemporary Bollywood, pop, dubstep, and electronic genres. Within three years of its creation in 2005, Dhamakapella grew into a sixteen-member group, with singers of various and diverse styles. Since they began competing in 2011, they have accrued 20 national titles and 27 individual awards at competitions across the United States, including this year at ICCA. The team was founded in 2009 and is made up of singers who come from various musical backgrounds. This group aims to fuse South Asian and Western vocal music through melodious and rhythmic a cappella arrangements. From popular Bollywood and Indian classical melodies to catchy American pop and hip hop tunes, the group covers many different genres of songs, adding their own flavor to the music they produce. Comprised of a group of talented young men and women, Anokha seeks to spread Indian and American culture and music to the community by performing popular Indian film and pop songs, in an array of languages including Hindi, Tamil, and Punjabi, as well as by performing English pop, rock, R&B, and alternative music. Founded in 2001, Anokha has established itself as one of the oldest and most unique South Asian Fusion A Cappella teams in the country.
