Work on the multiyear contract, the largest escalator replacement in BART's history, is set to begin in spring 2020. Schindler will install 41 9700 heavy-duty escalators at the Embarcadero, Montgomery, Powell and Civic Center/United Nations Plaza stations under BART's Market Street Escalators Renovation Project. Many of the units being replaced are among the oldest in the system, which opened in 1972 and has 48 stations.
