Often when we have people in our circle, in our world, who treat us poorly we make excuses for them. I think it's important to remind ourselves that no matter what their history, back story or relationship to us, no matter what they've done for us in the past or where they fit into our world they DO NOT have a right to treat you in a way that makes you feel bad or 'less than'.
