Being a step parent or being raised by a step parent can be difficult either way. Often times the scenario plays out OK, but it takes a lot of work and it almost always start out bumpy. I had a step parent enter my life at the age of 11, a good man with good morals. But even thought HE was a good person, the enevitable clash came between us. Because as much as you do for someone elses child, they will never be your child. I also have had the shoe on the other foot, and was a "step parent" (although not married) I lived with my ex and her two children for years. But HAVING a step parent did not in any way PREPARE me for being one. The obstacle will be there, like the difference in outward appearance, the relationship the NATURAL parents have with the child and each other, and the WILLINGNESS of the child and step parent to accept each other.
