With the permission author Catherine Ryan Hyde, the Conference adopted “Pay It Forward” as its motto. Catherine Ryan Hyde was the keynote speaker in 2001 in the inaugural year of this conference. To this day, none of the staff or keynote speakers receive payment for their services to the conference which helps to make it affordable for all writers.
