Doctor Who: The Whovian Review

Warren, Jon and Michael all give their two claws, er, cents, on how much we enjoyed this episode. Crazy drunken bicyclists aside, we were entertained by the shear volume of color (colour if you are from the UK)and organic eyeballs hanging around this spaceship. But where does this story rate in the Pertwee era? 

We dive into the Daisiest of daisies, and discover the lost city of Atlantis back when it existed. Ingrid Pitt, a naked Sgt. Benton, a frozen time Brigadier, Dr. Ruth, TOMTIT, and a flying winged man all invade the television in this very different Doctor Who story. But did we like this one? 

Well we have come to our final Fifth Doctor non-special episode. The Master, Kamelion, Turlough, the King, Tegan, and the Fifth Doctor become entangled in a very short plot full of sword fights and music?! Karl joins us as we give this story a chance. 

We question the possibility of Omega and Tegan Jovanka's cousin sleeping in the same crypt in the middle of Amsterdam as we try to figure out exactly what Omega created to pick off Tegan's cousin in the first place. Nyssa with a gun, Maxil seemingly looks familiar, Time Lords, The Castellan, Alfred from Keaton era Batman shows up, and somehow the Doctor gets stuck with Tegan again at the end. 

Check out our latest story, Timeflight! Ok, we admit, the ratings may be somewhat predictable, but did we enjoy this story at all? Warren and Michael discuss this classic Davison story that really isn't the most classic tale from this universe. And what exactly was a certain character thinking when devising such a harebrained scheme?

Beautiful events is what life is all about! The gang get dragged into a cave of nightmares where killer droids are taking out a human expedition one by one. When the Doctor finds out who is behind the murders, all hell breaks loose! A riveting tale of sadness, fear, isolation, and time travel, but how does the Whovian Review team feel about this one?

We take a look at this semi-historical story from season 19! 

We take a look at the snake, the Mara, the Colonel, The Fool, and Hindle in this intriguing conversation of the origins of this story. The third Peter Davison story is definitely different from anything that has come before, but did we like this tale of evil from within? 

Heading back to the first Peter Davison story ever produced, we give our 2 cents on this classic story from Season 19. We discuss the good, the bad, and the frogs! The TARDIS is very crowded, and Adric is acting completely out of his mind, but with some historical references, and intriguing dance routines, does this story fail to entertain, or just miss the mark with the three of us? One thing is for certain, The Doctor's hair was very short compared to his first story, Castrovalva. By the way, do you all sense a pattern to our releases now?

Okay, so after going through our vast catalogue we realized we made a mistake and forgot one very important episode! Without further ado we take a look back our final rated Matt Smith story, thus completing all of the more recent Doctor Who run. Warren and Jon join Michael, and Jeremy puts in his rating at the end. We kind of come full circle as we started this podcast with the Bells of St. John and have finally put up the story that precedes it. Hope you enjoy! 

Back in 2013, Jeremy and I gave our initial reaction to this newly released story. 13 years later Michael has updated the episode to include our theme song, edit out the bits meant for the first episode, and added our current thoughts on the episode. One rating was updated, and this time we have a new special edition edit that sounds a bit more like our usual podcasts. Hope you enjoy, and here's to another 13 years! Going back to our very first episode ever, I have reedited this episode to update the music, ratings, and overall sound so that this episode is better than it was before. Previously we had no theme song, and no background sound for our first two episodes. Now we are upgraded in all our glory to include present day podcasters at the end, and music throughout. Warren and Michael watch and rate the first 5 episodes of this epic classic including the newly recovered Episodes 1 and 3! We discuss the missing episodes, what could still be out there, and we use our knowledge (having watched reconstructions, listened to audio versions and watched episode 10) of the remaining 7 episodes to give our take on this First Doctor story! For episode 4 we watched Ian Levine's inspired AI version to fill in the gap between 3 and 5. Still, there is nothing like seeing Adrienne Hill's performance back on our screens! Not to mention Nicholas Courtney's first full Doctor Who episode! Enjoy!

Warren, John and Michael take a look at the final episode involving Amy and Rory as companions, and another amazing River Song story. This episodes marks the completion of all of the current Doctor Who (9-15), and a shout out to Sophie for our intro! Warren and Michael take a look at this Chris Chibnall episode, and ponder the point of the Shakri, an alien race that wants to rid the universe of humanity by using little black cubes. And waiting. And waiting. And waiting before they open said cubes!? 

Michael and Warren are joined by Charlie, who was on the podcast a while ago, and we take a look at the Season 7 Part 1 episode that brings us back to the Wild Wild West! The Doctor, Amy, and Rory materialize near an 1800's town run by someone who looks like they stepped off of Farscape with a Stetson and a 'stache! But who is the doctor held captive by the sheriff? And how does the town have electricity. Small technical issues until rating time, but we got it figured out...

Warren, Jon, and I enjoy a fun romp of an episode, and one that doesn't require a field handbook to decipher. With that said, some emotional moments with a Triceratops named Tracy, a TARDIS gang, Brian, and a Queen Nefertiti loving David Bradley round out a highly entertaining episode. 

We reach back to Season 7 and finally get a chance to talk about this underrated story. The start of updated title sequences, self contained stories, and the end of an amazing era is nigh. What did all of us think about this story?!

Reaching back into the vaults we came across an episode that never made it to distribution, and although great attempts to post this one episode, it never found its way out of the missing vault! So without further ado, we present our recently found again episode from the Season 6 era. Look for more recovered episodes from the past coming this year, both for The Whovian Review, and Doctor Who!

Warren and Jon give their take as classic fans, and then my son Jeremy gives his take as a newer fan of this infamous story. Do any of us consider this the worst story in Doctor Who's history? Is there anything redeeming with this particular tale? Who rates this story higher than everyone else, and who will suggest that there is some actual character development happening in the story. If we could just get past episode 1, and more to the point this story has the greatest range in scores during this one podcast I believe I have seen yet!
