If you were lost in a mythical forest, or a futuristic city, or even just stumbling aimlessly somewhere along Telegraph or San Pablo Avenue in Oakland - It's not that Spellling would know the way home (though she might.) It’s that, without a doubt, she would create a pathway to somewhere, and the journey to that new place would be delightful. It would be enchanting. Her latest album is called “The Turning Wheel,” embracing - both in title and in spirit - the karmic circle of life. No two ways about it, this Melbourne, Australia eclectic-fusion group is one of our favorite bands out there.  And they are way out there!  You could spend years trying to decipher their messages about cuttlefish and mushrooms, or trying to successfully categorize them into some sort of rock taxonomy, or trying to nail their perfectly imperfect groove.This record (we are afraid to say their most recent - cause there might be a new one any second) is called - Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava.  It’s available on their KGLW label.  It is their 21st studio album. The Aussie songwriter Julia Jacklin composes thoughtful lyrics and spacious arrangements, which in combination with her fresh harmonic choices make for a rewarding listening experience. Her latest album Pre-Pleasure is named for the state we all exist in - the moment right before a mythical state -  where we have arrived, we have done the work, and we can now live in the state of “pleasure.”  Problem is - that kind of work is never done, so we remain in this state - pre-pleasure, in perpetuity.  This episode features 3 songs from the new record, one from a Sub Pop Singles Club release, and a bonus from her 2019 in-studio, the epic “Don’t Know How to Keep Loving You” from the album “Crushing.”  Both are available from the Polyvinyl Record Company.
