CNN says that Australian man Steffan Nero grew up visually impaired. Steffan remembers struggling with constant anxiety. He got out of that anxiety after discovering visually impaired sports. The Chicago Lighthouse and Illinois Institute of Technology have joined forces. They’re taking on a special research project. The project is an Intracortical Visual Prosthesis. The Intracortical Visual Prosthesis, or ICVP, compensates for blindness. The ICVP stimulates the brain’s visual centers. And the prosthesis produces visual images for blind users. Researchers from three universities – Scott Lambert, Chloe Hershenow, and Jenna Gorlewicz of St. Louis University, Brett Fiedler of the PhET Interactive Simulations Project and University of Colorado Boulder, and Dor Abrahamson at University of California Berkeley have won the Dr. Arthur I. Karshmer Award for Assistive Technology Research.
