Jesus is baptizing at the same time as John the Baptist, and some of John's disciples are a bit jealous, recognizing that Jesus had more people coming to him than John did. John knew his ministry was not about him; instead, he needed to reflect all glory and attention to Jesus. In our lives and ministries, we much decrease and Jesus increase. Let his fame be made great.

It's important that we gather corporately for worship and teaching, but just as importantly that we gather in small groups. It is in these small groups that we will grow in our Christian walk and relationships with other believers.

Jesus was sent into the world to save it, not to condemn it. There is no condemnation for those who are in Jesus. Jesus is the light of the world, but it isn't our natural tendency to come to the light. It's the sovereign work of God that moves us in that direction.

This well-known verse confronts us to either believe or reject Jesus. This is God's great love to us even though we were dead in sin, and we respond by loving HIm and by loving others. Racism has no place in Christianity - Jesus died for all lives, the whole world. The love of God is limitless.

This is Joe Papineau's first teaching at Calvary Prineville. He starts by giving his testimony and how the Lord has worked in his life, and then moves to teach the end of Mark 13 - the Olivet Discourse - which he is also teaching in Paulina. Jesus teaches there are definite signs of His coming, although no one knows the exact hour. People don't agree on End Times interpretations be he's OK with this. When it happens, we'll know. There are two separate aspects of Jesus' return, separated by some amount of time. The first, Jesus returns for His Church in a "normal" world. The second, He returns with His Church as Conqueror to judge the world, which by now is gripped in the Great Tribulation. We don’t know when, so we need to be ready, alert and eager. Allow the Lord to use us.

Nicodemus comes to Jesus in the night and Jesus tells him that to see the kingdom of God one must be born again. Nicodemus can't understand how this can be, even though he is a respected teacher of the law and the Old Testament referred to being washed new with water.

Daniel prophesized about the Desolation, and it was partially fulfilled in 168 BC when Jerusalem was conquered and a pig sacrificed in the Temple. However, there is a greater fulfilment in the future during the End Times when the antichrist sets up an abomination. According to Daniel, Jesus will return 3 1/2 years later. Jesus warns us that when this happens we are to flee because there will be massive persecution. However, Christians will be raptured before this extreme time in world history, worse than anything ever before. We need to hold End Times stuff loosely, since there are many interpretations and some things are just a mystery. At the end of the day it's all about Jesus conquering, and if the Creator of the world says "take heed," we need to pay attention.

Jesus enters the Temple, sees that it has become a marketplace instead of a house of worship, and brings correction as prophesized in Malachi 3. The Jews question him but don't look at their own lives. As a sign He said he would be killed and then raised up in three days, and after his resurrection, the disciples remembered this and believed. The signs Jesus did fostered faith in peoples' hearts. Signs are good as long as they point you to Jesus.

Joe begins a series on the Olivet Discourse, where Jesus tells his disciples about the signs of the end times. As the disciples marvel at the Temple, Jesus says every stone is going to be torn down. Later it was, and this shows us that when He says something is going to happen, it will. Now, concerning end times, we're looking for two things: First, Jesus coming toward the earth and rapturing the Church; and second, after a period of tribulation, the return of Jesus to the earth with His church to reign. Jesus tells us not to be deceived by false prophets. He will return.

This is the well-known story of Jesus turning water into wine, but there is more to it than first meets the eye. More than wine, this illustrates that Jesus came to do away with the old and usher in the new. The term "drawing," when He drew the wine out of the jars, refers to drawing from a well, the water of which, like grace never ends. This new wine is better than all that before.

Jonah strayed, just like we all stray, but remained a child of God. However, he knew that when things got tough that if he cried out to the Lord, He would hear him. In the end, Jonah’s obedience led to God’s victory. Like Jonah, we all run at some time and we all need to repent. NOTE: The audio is garbled at first but is OK later on.

John the Baptist came to point people to Jesus. He prepared the way and then got out of the

Jesus, the Word, always was and became flesh among us. At the heart of every cult is a wrong view of who Jesus is. He came to dwell, or "tabernacle” among us. If He had not become a man, he could not have been tempted. Now victory is possible for us because of His strength.

The Psalm addresses the problem of the wicked flourishing while the righteous languish, or in other words, the suffering of the righteous while the wicked flourish. This is all too evident in the events of the day, but at the end of the day, with so many opinions, we need to know that Jesus is Lord and loves people. We need to have a healthy perspective on the things going on right now and know that Jesus is at the center of it all. We need to put our trust in God and declare His works. Truly God is good.

This answers the question, why did Jesus come into the world? He came for life and light. The Light shines in dark places, but the world loves darkness and doesn't believe it's in it. The gospel confronts you in your sin. John the Baptist, as an Old Testament apostle, was sent out to bear witness of the light. Jesus is the true light and we need to receive him and completely believe in him, then we have the right to eternal life.

The disciples finally understand (mostly) who Jesus is, yet after he tells them what is going to happen to him, they still think he's going to be an earthly king. Two of them, seeking importance, request to be allowed to sit to his right and left when he sits in Glory. Jesus tells them this is not his to grant, but that they will suffer as he will suffer. When the other disciples are upset about this, Jesus calls them all together and says that he came not to be served, but to serve, and they must be servants as well.

Jesus believed that the Bible was reliable and we need to start with the assumption that it IS the inspired Word of God. What does the Bible say about itself? How can it be God's Word if it's written by men? It was breathed out by God, spoken by God, and written by men inspired by the Holy Spirit. The Bible is profitable. Let the Word of God be the main influencer of your thoughts.

Four reasons the New Testament is a reliable document: 1. It's written in documentary style; 2. It has a reliable historic transmission; 3. There is evidence of early composition and it gets details right that you had to have been there to know; and 4. There is external corroboration Don’t serve the world – the world does not set up your world view. Put your faith in God for the details we haven’t figured out. Ultimately you have to choose to trust God.

John is the fourth of the "synoptic gospels," and since he was aware of those written by Matthew, Mark, and Luke, he adds different information. His thrust is that Jesus came into the world and by believing in His name we will have eternal life. He begins by saying Jesus has always been. He was there at creation. He was not created, He was. He was with God the Father but not God the Father, although He was identical. He was always and always was God.
