Tom Ewers from Calvary Chapel of Corvallis fixes our gaze on the Holiness of God. In his Holy Presence we are undone and are unable to stand, but the blood of Jesus provides us access into the presence of a Holy God.

The Roman governor Felix and his wife Drusilla call Paul to stand before them so they may hear him concerning faith in Christ. As Paul stands being judged, he reasons about righteousness, self control and the judgment to come with the immoral couple.

Paul gives his defense before the Roman Governor Felix and brings the charges against himself down to one main issue, his hope in the resurrection of both the just and the unjust.

The Jews bring significant opposition against Paul, but Jesus stands by Paul in the night and comforts him, telling Paul it's not over but preaching in Rome awaits the apostle. When things look bleak the next morning, God intervenes and supernaturally escorts the Gospel towards Rome through the most natural means: a nephew, a commander and a Roman escort.

During our Sunday service, Pastor Rory, two of the Elders, and the worship leader, gave a tag-team message about discipleship, and our great need to be disciples and not just converts. This was done in part to call the men in the church to consider becoming disciples, committing to a year's journey through Biblical discipleship.

Paul has made it to Jerusalem where he is greeted by James and the elders. They rejoice to hear of the incredible gospel transformation that occurred during Paul's last two missionary journeys. The champion of Grace comes home to meet many new Jewish converts who are struggling to understand what role the law and temple play in their new life. The elders suggest Paul take a vow and spend some time in the temple to ease the weak conscience of the Jews, and to show that he still has a reverence for the law and the temple. While Paul is in the temple, some Asian Jews who were familiar foes (Acts 20.19) agitate the crowd and pounce on Paul who is quickly seized by the Roman authorities. Paul kindly asks to address the Jewish crowd, who listens quietly to his conversion story which consists of an epic encounter with a Risen Jesus. Paul shares Christ's calling on his life to minister the gospel to the Gentiles and at this word, the Jews become hysterical and demand his death. In God's sovereignty, Paul is saved

Since Acts 19.21, Paul had purposed in the Spirit to get to Jerusalem in time for Pentecost. Acts 20.22 tells us the Paul was bound in the Spirit to go to Jerusalem. Here in Chapter 20, we see something surprising. It appears the Holy Spirit is speaking through Paul's traveling companions made up of apostles, deacons, evangelists and prophets that he should NOT go to the Holy City. Was Paul in the will of God by continuing on his journey? If the Apostle Paul had conflicting advice, how in the world can we know the will of God? Pastor Rory gives some practical Biblical principles for discerning the leading of the Holy Spirit in our lives today.

On the final stretch of Paul's third missionary journey, Paul stops to visit Philip the Evangelist. He finds Philip has four virgin daughters who prophecy. This is a family that is clothed in purity and accustomed to the Lord moving by the Power of Holy Spirit! Pastor Rory explains that this radical home-life is not something just privy to Bible characters, but is available and expected in our homes today.

The resurrection is a historical fact that can be easily proven. Jesus is alive, but so what? How is this relevant to me today? Pastor Rory shows us 10 huge implications of having a living God.

Paul's tearful goodbye to the Ephesian elders contains one of the most powerful exhortations to church leaders. As the Elders are charged with the task of feeding, tending and protecting the flock of God we glean good insight into the identity and function of not only church leaders, but the church itself.

Paul connects with the elders from Ephesus for a final exhortation in their ministering. He begins by reminding them of his walk among them, a walk better referred to as a race, one we would do well to imitate.

What would your city look like if the gospel had radically transformed it? How would the local government, economy, and populace be changed? As the message of Jesus spread throughout all Asia from Ephesus, the city itself had dramatically been impacted and those unbelievers who were most affected raise havoc.

In Acts 19:8-20, we see Paul preaching in the synagogue to hardened hearts, then goes instead to the school of Tyrannus. Consequently, the gospel goes forth into all of Asia. Pastor Rory Rodgers, teaches.

In Acts 17:10-34, we see the fair-mindedness of the Bereans, and the way they considered what Paul had to say, by searching the scriptures. Contrast that with the philosophers and debaters on Mars Hill, the center of philosophical debate, and how some considered what Paul said, but didn't give much heed to the power of the Gospel.

Does it ever seem like God's plans and God's timing can be confusing, but when you can finally look back and see how he worked everything together, it all makes sense? As Paul and Silas travel on their missionary journey, the Lord forbids them to go to certain places, only to bring them to another where, for all intents and purposes, it doesn't look like it's going to go well for them. But in the midst of tremendous pain and trials, the Lord is glorified through their heart for Him.

After the Apostles had decided to write to the newly saved Gentile believers, they determined not to give them any big list of commands. They simply said, "Stay away from idols, and meet sacrificed to them, and don't sin sexually." Sexual sin during their time was still as rampant as ever, and it's no different today.
