Stories about missing cities have been around for a while. Many of us are familiar with names like Sodom and Gomorrah, Atlantis, Pompeii, and Roanoke. Those places disappeared long ago. Surely there are no modern tales of cities mysteriously gone missing? That is what I thought until my wife showed me a post from a Facebook group she is on about a town in my home state called Doveland. Supposedly, this town disappeared sometime in the early 1990s. These words appeared at the beginning of a paragraph on the 4Chan website back in May of 2019 describing a picture of an empty office space. Since that day The Backrooms have become a popular subject among fans of internet horror. However, the development of the Backrooms has not been the work of a single person. Wiki users have submitted hundreds of levels, programmers have created video games based on the Backrooms, YouTube creators have made videos about this place, and (shameless self promotion) the host of this podcast and a friend of his wrote a table top role playing game called Caught in the Backrooms. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work at an archeological dig site? Jeff, one of Al's buddies from the college years, wondered the same thing. In 2021 he signed up to go on an archeology field camp at the Koster Site in southwest Illinois. This site has evidence of human habitation going back almost 9000 years. Jeff discusses the site's history and shares some of his experiences from working on the dig site. CORRECTION: After posting this episode Jeff informed me that the name of the site is actually the German site. The Koster site is another site in Illinois. This episode is a little different from most of my Creepypasta Theater episodes in that while I did write a story it isn't entirely my own. The story can be found on Creepypasta.wikia.com but the original post only had a couple of paragraphs and several pictures. The post also would have set the story in the United Kingdom. I re-worded the second paragraph so this story can take place anywhere. I also created descriptions of each photograph and my interpretations of what could have been happening.
