7.10 [TEACHING] Surprises In the Text (wk. 1): Receiving The Gift of Limits
11/07/2022 Duración: 38minMike Goldsworthy - Perhaps the American success ethos that drives us to do more, achieve more and work harder as we defy our limits is actually not the best way to live. And perhaps there is a gift and a unique grace that we receive in the recognition, embrace and acceptance of our limits. We look at this through the lens of Hebrews 2:14-15, Matthew 5:3, and some thoughts from Richard Beck in his book Slavery of Death. Today's teaching comes from Mike Goldsworthy, long time friend of SBCC. Mike is a speaker, resourcer, and guide with a passion for connecting like-minded churches and leaders. He also has a podcast, space for faith: re-imaginging the church for our current moment, and started the Post-Evangelical Collective which met here at SBCC last fall. 6.19 [TEACHING] Everyone An Icon (wk 3): What Happens When You Don’t See Yourself As an Icon?
20/06/2022 Duración: 37minDr. Angela Logan - This week in our 4-week series looking at our mantra. "Everyone An Icon," we reflect on the question "What happens when you don't see yourself as an icon?" For some of us, it's easier to see the icon-ness in others than it is to see the icon-ness in the face that greets us in the mirror every morning. Looking at the story of the Apostle Peter, we will reflect on the ways we can learn to see the goodness and Godness in ourselves. 6.12 [REFLECTION] The Image Within Us Liturgy
16/06/2022 Duración: 12minIn this weekends gatherings, before jumping in to week 2 of our “Everyone an Icon” series, we spent some time centering ourselves of the image of God within us. Through several songs, a personal story, and Psalm 8 we sought to remind ourselves of who we are in light of the inherent dignity of being human. Finally, we will reflect on the wisdom of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. from his sermon "Loving your Enemies". If you’re a part of the growing digital SBCC community, we’d love to hear from you!
