Sinopsis

Dragged into Turbolasers is Between the Bolter and Me's official miniature wargaming podcast. We talk critically about all aspects of the miniature hobby, with a primary focus on Warhammer 40,000 and other Games Workshop games. Rather than conversing about rules and competitive play, our priority is to discuss the miniature side of the hobby: examining new model releases, exploring hobby techniques, and talking about our current projects on the blog Between the Bolter and Me.

Episodios

  • Episode 22: A classic design revisited, Primaris Space Marines

    16/05/2017 Duración: 01h16min

With this episode we are joined by the extraordinarily talented Mr_Pink, from the blog Modern Synthesist, to talk about the newly revealed Primaris Space Marines. We talk at length about the models as well as the lore surrounding them.

  • Episode 21: Warhammer 40k 8th edition is upon us!

    28/04/2017 Duración: 44min

The new edition of Warhammer 40,000 is soon to be released, and Games Workshop has been revealing a lot of information about its changes from previous editions via their Community site. We spend the episode talking about some of these changes from the perspective of people who did not get too invested in the previous edition, partially because of how bloated it became and how little it focused on the narrative elements that we enjoy most.

  • Episode 20: Our Kharadron Overlords and how to Mind the Gap

    18/04/2017 Duración: 35min

In this episode we discuss the new Kharadron Overlord model line for Age of Sigmar, paying special attention to the awkward proportions present on the models (particularly the wide thigh gap present on all of them). We end the episode talking about Forge World’s latest Primarch model, Magnus the Red.

  • Episode 19: Is Shadow War Games Workshop’s Inquisimunda?

    31/03/2017 Duración: 28min

This episode is focused around Games Workshop’s new Shadow War: Armageddon boxed game. We talk about our pleasant surprise at the game using the Necromuda ruleset, expanded to include other Warhammer 40k armies and weapons, rather than the gangs from the hive world of Necromunda. We discuss how this will affect 40k as a whole and how it might influence the Inqisimunda and Inq28 community.

  • Episode 18: The Dark Age of Sigmar

    08/03/2017 Duración: 42min

We begin this episode by talking about the new Age of Sigmar releases, focusing on some of David Waeselynck’s work, the Vanguard-Palladors and the new Slambo. We also discuss the recently released Warhammer Quest game, Shadows over Hammerhal. We then transition into describing how Jake from Ex Profundis started a movement to bring the narrative style of Inq28 to Age of Sigmar, creating AoS28. The Age of Sigmar setting is a veritable blank slate upon which you can explore virtually any creative impulse, without feeling beholden to droves of background knowledge. This has encouraged us to start building a warband of warriors afflicted by an odd crystallizing disease, inspired by the J.G. Ballard novel The Crystal World.

  • Episode 17: Roboute Guilliman and questions concerning Space Marine Anatomy

    14/02/2017 Duración: 01h06min

We begin this episode by talking about some of the new Tzeentch releases before shifting into discussing the third Triumvirate boxed set, including Roboute Guilliman, Cypher, and Grand Master Voldus. We spend a lot of time pondering the egregious anatomical issues of the vast majority of current the Space Marine models, and how they were remedied by Simon Egan with his series of Primarch models. We finish out the episode talking about our current work to build a better proportioned true-scale Space Marine.

  • Episode 16: Talking with Stygian Thorne about Inq28 and Fall of Cadia

    21/01/2017 Duración: 58min

In this episode we had the pleasure of interviewing Ahmad Jafar, know as Stygian Thorne from the blog of the same name. We talk at length about his introduction to the hobby and where he draws his inspiration. We also discuss his extensive work expanding the idea of Spyreheads within the Imperium and how their sect fits within the Imperial Creed. We end the episode talking about Games Workshop’s new book the Fall of Cadia, and how it fits in with the Eye of Terror codex back in 2003.

  • Episode 15: 2017 begins!

    06/01/2017 Duración: 47min

    21/10/2016 Duración: 01h05min

We spend this episode discussing the upcoming Burning of Prospero box game.  We speculate on how it will differ from the earlier Betrayal at Calth Horus Heresy game, as well as comment on the quality of the new models.  In the second half of the episode we switch to talking about the rerelease of Blood Bowl, and decide whether or not we want to start playing it again.  Finally, we talk about our current hobby projects, where Greg and Eric reveal that they are starting to paint models for the first time in many years!

    11/08/2016 Duración: 01h10min

Eschewing the normal structure of our podcasts, this entire episode is focussed on recounting the events of the Pilgrym event held in Nottingham.  We describe the scope of the event, both in terms of the storyline, rules used, the people involved, as well as talk about the events leading up to the game, and Warhammer World in general.

    29/06/2016 Duración: 52min

This episode is focused on Games Workshop’s recent venture into the boardgaming, a hobby that has been popularized by companies like Fantasy Flight Games.  We talk about the increasing number of small games that GW has released, seemingly only to sell models, as opposed to creating compelling games.  In the same vein, we talk about their more promising attempts at game creation, like the newly released Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower.

    17/03/2016 Duración: 55min

We begin this episode by talking about AntiMatter’s new Deep Wars Blood Reef expansion, before moving into discussing the Stormcast Dracothian Guard and the larger Stardrake.  Our main talking point of the episode is about Games Workshop’s supplement system, which they use to update armies without completely redesigning their codex books, as well as to advance the 40k storyline along ever so slightly.  We move on to discussing the decrease in sculpt quality in the majority of the newest Malifaux models, specifically how they seem to disregard anatomical proportions and even the concept art from which they are based.  We end the episode talking about how Adam is engaged in painting some of the our Pilgrym Project models, and that we have been working on some of the new Kingdom Death expansions.
