Jesus came into our broken world to bless it; to be Immanuel - God with us. But, as the gospel writer John said, Jesus came into the world and was not recognized for who he really was.

Jesus wants to lead in all the areas of our lives. He wants to influence the way we think about things and the way we live. He wants us to align our story with His grand story. He said to his followers, “Those who follow me must deny themselves, take up their cross and follow me.” One of the places where this is difficult for many of us, and where we often make excuses for not following Him, is in the area of our money and resources. Jesus had so much to say about how we save, how we spend and how we give our money. During this series we will be focusing on God’s story of our resources so we can better align with his story. Beginning in January, Orchard Hill Church will offer Financial Peace University which helps people take necessary practical steps in this important area. Aligning with God’s story of money will help us find peace, joy and generosity.

St. Irenaeus said “The glory of God is a human being fully alive.” God wants us to be fully alive, in relationship with him, and participating in the work he is doing in the world. This brings God glory and brings us great joy and purpose. To do this, we need to grow in knowledge of both God and ourselves. These two kinds of knowing are like opposite sides of a balance scale; to have one without other leads to an off-kilter life. To have one without the other can damage our ability to love ourselves, our neighbors, and God. Knowing God can deepen our knowledge of ourselves. The more we know God the clearer we can see what he is doing in the world and we can watch for ways to join in and work with him. The more we know God the more we can trust ourselves to him and to his care. Knowing ourselves can deepen our knowledge of God. The more we know ourselves the better we understand our unique role in God’s work, the more we can experience God’s love for us and the more we can enjoy who God created us to be. W
