Field Days is hosted by Chris Gautz, the department's spokesperson and Greg Straub, administrative assistant to the FOA deputy director, as well as on occasion by Noah Nagy, Deputy Warden at Detroit Reentry Center, who, along with Greg, started the podcast and were Golden Post Award nominees as hosts.Every Tuesday you can find a new episode of Field Days on your Apple device using the iTunes podcast app by searching for Field Days. The podcast is also available on the SoundCloud app which can be downloaded through the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.   • Competitive Shooting Team - Special Edition

    Three sponsored department competitive shooting teams took second place overall, during the 80th Michigan State Police Pistol Match — a first in department history. Deanne "Dee" Bodnar, a sergeant at Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility and podcast guest, won the High Corrections Individual title. The September 14 competition was held in Jackson where Bodnar and over 30 MDOC shooters went up against 150 competitors. EPIC Competitive Shooting Team lead, Assistant Deputy Director Robert Napel, and Dee talk about the competition and the plans to drum up support from staff.

In this episode, Greg and Chris talk to French about how his coaching helped bring the Engadine Eagles basketball team to the MHSAA Tournament.

    The role of a Field Agent and the interactions our agents have with the offenders they supervise is critical to public safety and reducing the overall risk of the offender. Evidence-Based Practices indicate it is imperative for field staff to address an offender’s criminogenic. The Department has chosen to pilot Carey Guides with 100 field agents including our guest, Angel Lucas, a probation agent in Bay County, in order to provide an additional resource to agents. The guides are designed to be used in three ways; stand-alone intervention, as a reinforcement of another program intervention and ad-hoc intervention.

    In the room where it happened, Warden Robert Napel recounts three of four staff deaths that occurred at Marquette Branch Prison. Warden T.B. Catlin, Deputy Warden Fred Menhennett, and Corrections Officer Earl DeMarse were all killed while on duty, in what was formerly the theater at the prison. Dr. A. W. Hornbogen also lost his life during a failed escape attempt at the facility.Marquette Branch Prison, which opened in 1889, has a rich history in this Field Days Podcast you'll learn about both the good and bad, but also what the future holds.
