King David showed tremendous kindness and hospitality to Saul's grandson Mephibosheth, who was crippled in both legs. Mephibosheth was also his best friend Jonathan's son. David demonstrated God's love in 3 ways: 1. Love that extends to even a friend of a friend (Jonathan), for the sake of that friend (v.1) 2. Kindness that brings extravagant generosity (v.7) 3.Restores and Gives a new identity, in the King's family = Eat at the table like a son (v. 11). How do you respond to God's invitation to come to his table? Are you grateful for God's love that he considers you his son or daughter? Who can you show kindness to as a friend of a friend, for the sake of Jesus?

What do I learn about how God loves people? How can I share this love with the people around me?‍ Q: How does God love people? He crosses barriers He sees people with compassion He offers us Living Water

Food is a tangible way to love people. Even Jesus, early in his ministry, fed the 5000. In this John 21 passage, Jesus showed his love for his disciples, providing a fire, food, and fellowship (like here at the church picnic). Even though Peter had denied him 3 times when Jesus was arrested, Jesus still loved Peter, serving him breakfast (hospitality). Jesus reminded Peter of his first calling to be a fisher of men, and restored him. Our challenge: Do you love Jesus? Then do as Jesus did, and ask others, "Have you eaten yet?" 1 John 4:19: "We love because He loved us first ."

John Koyama shares a bit about where he is with evangelism.

Someone once said, "Gases and Love" can't be contained. You gotta let it out!. One of the most picturesque moment where God's Love is shown is when the Prodigal Father runs to his son cuz Mercy flows from compassion. When our heart is full of compassion we are moved to help the needy, to love the unlovely, to be gracious to the unworthy. Compassion gives us feet. And today, Jesus paints us a picture of God, being so full of compassion for His erring children, that He runs toward us when we make any movement toward Him.

In our new sermon series, "Come and See!" we want to navigate through the Scripture as Jesus himself invites his people to know who He is by giving them HOPE! He offers the most personal invitation to humanity – which is Himself. And Jesus did not turn crowds and individuals away. Far from being the life and soul of the party, Jesus was interested in those He came into contact with by meeting our deepest longings of the human heart and the darkest struggles that we confront. So, as Jesus invited....we are inviting all of you to Come and See what He continues to do, today!

Missions of the past was about "going". Now it includes "coming". How will the church adjust to these new realities?

Someone once said, 'Fill the fields, not just the pews.' What they were referring to was the age-old imperative for the church to win souls, train them up, only to send them out to win more people for Christ. The common term for this in the church today is "Mobilization." Today we will discuss how to ensure your church has a culture of mobilization that will fulfill it's calling to impact this world for Christ.

"Christians are called to "go and make disciples of all nations." What does it take to be a goer? How do I know where I am supposed to go? What can I do here and now? What can we learn from Abraham?"

Jonah 4:1-11 with focus on versus 10-11. Jonah's journey is learning about what God cares about. God cares that we have compassion for the things HE has compassion for, i.e. people. He also cares that we are obedient to finish well.

This Sunday we’ll be visiting Matthew 11:28-30 as we enter into the heart of Jesus that is “gentle and lowly” and discover the true rest that he freely gives us. "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30).

The Book of Ephesians was preparing the early church for the work of creating a whole new world that represented the Kingdom of God. As we leave our self-imposed hibernation due to the pandemic and returning to in-person gatherings as a church community, we need to refamiliarize ourselves with our God-given purpose that is greater than our own individual salvation. Our mission at CLC is to make disciples who Love God, Love People, and Serve the World. Sounds good but how do we know we are doing it right? Here are 3 ways to help us measure success, with help from insights in Ephesians: 1. We love God for God to be seen (Ephesians 3:14-19), application Spiritual Disciplines, 2. We love people for people to feel loved (Ephesians 5:21), application emotionally healthy relationships, and lastly 3. We serve the world for lives to be changed into the likeness of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 4:11-16), application Spiritual Gifts.
