This week at our Community Gathering for Worship, we welcomed four members of our Truett family to tell their stories as a part of Spiritual Formation and Worship service. The first to tell her story is Jo Ann Sharkey, Truett's Assistant Director of Student Services.

This week at our Community Gathering for Worship we heard James Taylor, a student of George W. Truett Theological Seminary, expected to graduate December 2012. James also serves as an Associate Minister at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Waco, TX. The title of his sermon is: "Damaged But Not Worthless", and is drawn from the text, John 21:15-17.

This week at our Community Gathering for Worship we welcomed Rev. Dr. A. Louis Patterson Jr., Pastor of Mount Corinth Missionary Baptist Church in Houston for over 42 years, as our guest for the E.K. Bailey Memorial Preaching Celebration. The title of his sermon is: "Remember the Lord's Teaching" and is drawn from Deuteronomy 8:1-5.

The annual Rev. Dr. E.K. Bailey Memorial Sermon delivered this year by Rev. Dr. A. Louis Patterson Jr., Pastor of Mount Corinth Baptist Church in Houston for 42 years.

Coming as our "Pastor of the Day," we welcomed Josh Carney to our Truett Seminary Community Gathering for Worship. Josh is the teaching pastor at University Baptist Church in Waco, TX. The title for Josh's sermon is: "Preaching Jesus" and is drawn from 1 John 1:1-4.

The third lecture of the 2012 Parchman Endowed Lecture series featuring Dr. Geoffrey Wainwright. Dr. Wainwright has taught theology in Cameroon, West Africa; Birmingham, England; Union Theological Seminary in New York; and at Duke Divinity School in Durham, NC. The title of his series is: "Faith, Hope, and Love: The Ecumenical Trio of Virtues".

This week at our Community Gathering for Worship we welcomed Dr. David Hardage, who serves as the Executive Director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. The title of his speech is: "Faith Foundation", and is drawn from the text, 2 Timothy 1:6-12.

Session 3 of the 2012 Fall Preaching Convocation and Workshop was presented by Dr. Craig Barnes, and sponsored by the Kyle Lake Center for Effective Preaching. Dr. Barnes serves as the Robert Meneilly Professor of Pastoral Ministry at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, as well as the pastor of The Shadyside Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh. The title of his sermon is: "Running from the Call", and was delivered at our weekly Community Gathering for Worship on Tuesday morning. The sermon is drawn from the text: Jonah 1:1-3.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, this week at our Community Gathering for Worship we welcomed Dr. Gus Reyes, who serves as the Director of the Hispanic Education Initiative/Affinity Ministry for Texas Baptists. The title of his sermon is: "Components of the Faith Walk", and is drawn from the text, Matthew 14:24-32.

This week at our Community Gathering for Worship we welcomed Dr. Bruce Webb, who is in his fifth year as pastor of First Baptist Church of The Woodlands, Texas. The title of his sermon is: "The Foundation Stone", and is drawn from the text, 1 Peter 2:6.

This week at our Community Gathering for Worship, the sermon was delivered by Dr. Joel Gregory, who is in his eighth year as Professor of Preaching at Truett. The title of his sermon is: "The Contagious Jesus", and is drawn from the text, Luke 5:12-16.

This week at our Community Gathering for Worship we welcome Bishop Vashti McKenzie, who serves as the 117th elected and consecrated bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, and the presiding prelate of the 10th Episcopal District. The title of her sermon is: "Speaking Truth to Power: Just Tell It", and is drawn from the text, Exodus 4:10-17.

This week at our Community Gathering for Worship we celebrated our Fall Convocation service. Truett Seminary Dean, Dr. David E. Garland, delivered the convocation address, which is titled: "God's Last and Only Hope! Really?", and is drawn from Mark 9:38-40.

Dr. Kimlyn Bender, Associate Professor of Theology and Philosophy at the University of Sioux Falls presented our annual Willson-Addis endowed lecture in Practical Christianity. The title of Dr. Bender's lecture is: "Barth and Baptists".
