How does Jesus intercede on our behalf?

At Christ City Church, we value long lingering dinners...especially those where God has brought together a group who at first glance seem like an unlikely party. why? Because Jesus did. We believe that relationships are forged, mended, and strengthened when people are brought together to prepare, present, and participate in a great meal. In Luke 5, we see the practice of hospitality as a means to build a community. This type of meal nourishes both the belly and the soul. In reflection of that, we need to see every meal as an opportunity for worship...a eucharist that invites Jesus as the honored host.

The Word of God is more than a set of guidlines or recommendations. It gives us the foundation for how we live, move, and shape every aspect of our lives. This week, we will use a metaphor for firmly holding on to God's promises and principles by learning The Navigatior's "hand analogy."

In Ecclesiates 1:1-11, the writer paints what seems to be a grim picture of life. But in truth, the writer is painting a very realistic yet joyous picture - that a Christian can trust in God's eternal truth even in spite of difficult circumstances because what happens "under the sun" does not change the truth about who God is "above the sun."

The miraculous story of Jesus walking on the water is found in different gospel accounts. Only in Matthew's account, however, do we read that Jesus wasn't the only water walker that stormy night. In Matthew's account, we see how the Hoy Spirit empowered Peter with the faith to obey Christ's call to step out of the boat in a great act of obedience that resulted in worship.

In his final warning and benediction, Paul passionately addresses the ill-intent of works-based religion versus the pure intent of the gospel. He then sums up the overall plea of his letter in one short, yet powerful command, "Boast only in the cross of Christ."

In these verses, Paul begins to conclude his letter by applying the divine principle of the harvest. Paul wants to clear any misunderstanding that might still be lingering in the minds of these young, immature, deceived believers. Paul wants them to understand that although it is true that in eternal redemption, we reap only what Christ has sown, it is also true that in this world's earthly reward system, we still rep what we sow.

How is a Holy Spirit-filled life lived out in the context of relationships? In these short yet powerfully practical verses, we see how dependency in and accountability to God affords us the right kind of dependency and accountability with people. This is the essence of God-centered community.

Although the term, "fruit of the Spirit," is one of the Scripture's most recited terms, it is also one of the most misunderstood. Many see the fruit of the Spirit as an external prescription for godly living, when in fact it is a description of what Christ-centeredness produces from the inside out.

In this section, Paul expounds on the scandalous freedom of salvation. Webster's dictionary defines freedom as a liberated and delivered state of condition. But the Bible takes this definition to another level by defining a believer as a liberated and delivered individual who maintains his eternally-free position no matter his temporary condition.

Easter is a celebration of the single greatest event in all history- the resurrection of Jesus Christ. By complete reliance in Christ's atoning death, burial, and resurrection, the penalty of our sins are paid for, and we are justified with God.

As we study the account of Jesus' coronation, we will look at the characters that were present that day in the crowd. Could it be that we have more in common with them than we think?

The ascent of Paul's argument in the book of Galatians reaches it's apex in this chapter. Here, Paul continues his impassioned declaration of Christian freedom. But up until this point, he has only written about what we've been set free from. In this section though, he shifts to what we are free for.

In this segment of Paul's letter to the Galatians, passionate conviction evolves into a vulnerable, affectionate plea. These verses are not as mind-bending as they are gut-wrenching.
