Golf – Champions – Alker shoots 63 and rallies to win Senior PGA for 1st major Steven Alker is on a roll and now has his first senior major. Alker rallied from four shots behind with a 63 to win the Senior PGA Championship. That’s his third victory this year on the PGA Tour Champions and his first major. The 50-year-old from New Zealand was part of a three-way tie involving Stephen Ames and Bernhard Langer. They all made bogeys at some point on the back nine. Alker made a pair of key birdies that allowed him to take control. The win gets Alker into his first PGA Championship next year at Oak Hill. The 50-year-old New Zealander, who already has won twice and leads the PGA Tour Champions money list with almost $1.2 million, started his round with a 25-foot downhill eagle putt on the 539-yard, par-5 10th hole after a 240-yard approach with a 5-wood. Golf – Senior PGA – Steve Stricker out of Senior PGA with positive COVID-19 test Former Ryder Cup captain Steve Stricker has pulled out of the Senior PGA Championship after testing positive for the coronavirus. Stricker revealed his positive test Tuesday on Twitter. He says he was “super bummed” and that it was “just a small setback.” Stricker was out of competition for six months because of a virus that he says doctors never fully identified. He became ill last fall about a month after leading the Americans to a record blowout over Europe at Whistling Straits. Stricker is coming off his fourth senior major title two weeks ago at the Regions Tradition.
