Trumpeter and composer Nate Wooley releases Mutual Aid Music, a double-CD of eight ensemble concertos. Mutual aid points to the concept of community action and the human drive to provide succor to our fellow humans. Mutual aid is the primary ethic of an anarchistic utopia in which each knows what they have, is honest about what they need, and is prepared to give and receive accordingly. Every human want is met by a commensurate surplus and all are lifted equally above suffering. Wooley’s Mutual Aid Music asks the musicians to take stock of their gifts and to ask themselves, in each moment, how their use of that gift will affect the community (ensemble) of which they are currently a member. 1. The long-anticipated follow-up to Gavin Bryars’ The Fifth Century, which won The Crossing its first GRAMMY award in 2018, the 12-movement A Native Hill was premiered by the ensemble in October 2019 at their home, The Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia. Restored from an out-of-print Melodiya master recording. The Love for Three Oranges, Op. 33, is a satirical opera by Sergei Prokofiev. Its French libretto was based on the Italian play L'amore delle tre melarance by Carlo Gozzi. The opera premiered at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, Illinois, on 30 December 1921. The original Italian and French titles actually mean The Love of the Three Oranges, which makes the word for in the English version of the title a slight corruption or mistranslation. Marie Victoire (1912–1914, première 2004) is a French-language opera in four acts by the composer Ottorino Respighi to a libretto by Edmond Guiraud (1879–1961) based on his French-language play of the same name, set in the French Revolution.
