British police versus Christians: can Dia Moodley preach?
29/09/2022 Duración: 34minDavid Scott is joined by Dia Moodley of Spirit of Life Church in Bristol. Moodley is the main preacher at this church and, together with his congregation, has been engaging with the public on the streets to discuss the big issues of belief and lack of belief, morality and how to view the world. Complaints from those who do not share a Christian worldview—including transgender and LBGTQIA2S+ people, some adherents of the Islamic faith, and some angry atheists—were received by Avon and Somerset Police. The police response, notwithstanding the lawfulness of the activity, was to engage in a year-long evidence-gathering process during dialogue with Moodley and then to serve him with a warning notice (evangelism ban) under the Public Order Act 1986, ostensibly for his own protection and that of of his congregation. 16/09/2022 Duración: 31minBanoo Deodat arrived in Britain from India in the 1960s and worked in the National Health Service for the rest of her career as a liver transplant nurse. Now aged 86, she has had night care withdrawn from her by a decision of North Central London Clinical Commissioning Group. Alex Thomson interviews Mrs Deodat's son, Sean, about the incessant problems that he has had in obtaining NHS-funded care for his mother, who—as the NHS acknowledges in its assessment of her needs—suffers from multiple health problems that have left her bedridden and incontinent. Even the carers who are sent to attend to Mrs Deodat in the daytime, and the NHS staff who come at night when called in an emergency, are shocked that the local Clinical Commissioning Group has denied her night care.
