Hey y'all, We sat ourselves down, did some nice, refreshing face masks, and watched the fine folks of Outlander lay the groundwork for the rest of the season. Our skin is supple, and our minds were sharp. Why sharp?   Because this is Podlander Sobercast: an Outlander Podcast.   Fear not, we'll be back on the sauce soon, but this is the only episode we've ever done for which all three of us were stone-cold sober. Coinface returns!   What else do you want? Allison and Julie, sadly sans Janine once more, love love love them some Coinface. Sure, there are some mixed feelings about the outerwear choices of Master Willie Leechington-Bangs, and we both groaned out load at a certain line of dialogue, but David Berry and Duncan Lacroix had a scene together, so how much can we really complain?   Lots of love, Julie, Allison, and Janine

Some good stuff here, in our humble opinion! Solid #intheboooooks talk, a lovely little side tangent about how some dudes just can't put the fuckin' toilet paper on the holder, a part where the batteries on the recorder die and we have to stop and buy new ones, lots of Sofie, you get the idea. But yeah yeah who cares because.... [REDACTED]! We don't want to spoil it for you, but we are very excited about a certain head of silver hair (seriously, it's a great wig) and the fabulous acting happening on and around that head. So this is an odd one, friends. The first half: us tracking down and reacting to the teaser for the fourth season of Outlander. The second half: a "spoiler section" that quickly devolves into a conversation about DNA and then about tampons. You can skip ahead to 28:30 if you don't want to hear spoilers (well, there are still some very mild ones) but do want to hear us jaw for half an hour. It's here! It's Dudelander! For those new to the fun and games, our seasonal Dudelander episodes feature Neal (Julie's husband) and Kevin (Allison's arch-enemy who is actually just her friend), two gentlemen who watch Outlander with varying degrees of enthusiasm. Usually, they're pleasantly surprised by some things and not by others; this time around, we're all pretty frustrated so the vibe is different.  They're funny, and we got them wasted, and also we recorded this on NEW YEARS EVE, so don't be confused when we start singing Auld Lang Syne.  Working through this backlog. For this episode, we were live. We did it live. Live at Empirical Brewery, we gave out our traditional end of season awards, and we did so live and in person. Live. It was in December. We're catching up on the backlog, we promise. So... happy holidays? We also got to see so many of you! It was wonderful. Hey, please read this note. Julie and I (Allison) screwed up. This is a funny episode, we think — god, we hope so — and we had not one but TWO amazing guests, and we got to talk about Lotte Verbeek a lot, so, win. But we were vaguely dissatisfied with the show's handling of slavery, and talked about it as such, wrapped the episode, and went home happy. Then we woke up the next morning, thought about it some more, and realized that yeah, we screwed up. The thing about white privilege is that it's based on the idea that white people are always centered in the narrative, and you can be "woke" and still be totally ignorant of the constant, insidious ways that society and culture sideline people of color in favor of whiteness, even in stories about people of color. So we sat our white asses down, accepted that somehow this story was about how Claire felt about buying a slave, thought for about five minutes afterward, and totally failed you all  — both of us as people failed, and I in particular as a critic failed.

Hi gang! We recorded a little late this week, but friend of the show Jen Moniz filled in for Allison and is brilliant, so there's an upside!
