Microtransactions In Full Priced Games In this episode: We talk about microtransactions in full-priced games and slip into a little bit of F2P talk, too.   Which microtransactions work for us and which ones just make us angry? Discussion ranges from Overwatch and its loot boxes to Battlefront 2 and its loot boxes. Both are similar systems, but we aren't sold on one of them. DLC and microtransactions and expansion content are increasingly becoming blurred together, and we talk about just what that means for the future of the industry, as well as our interest in continuing with games beyond their initial content. Also, Beej just doesn't really get FPS games. #shrug Weekly Geekery Beej is still obsessed with all things Brandon Sanderson and is prepping for Oathbreaker. Final Fantasy is one of our favorite series. We play them and replay them, and recently, FFXIV grabbed both of us and sank it's grubby little MMO claws right into us. While neither of us tend to be big MMOers these days, FFXIV has so much going for it that we really can't resist it. FFXIV is in full swing for both of us in the middle of the summer gaming slump. Spider-Man Homecoming In this episode: We talk about Spider-Man: Homecoming, despite Void not having seen it. Life gets in the way sometimes, ya know? We discuss the current state of the MCU and how Spidey fits into it. Void talks about how he wishes he could watch movies at home right when they release in the theater, and even how he would pay a premium price to do so. Beej nerds out about his deep love of Spider-Man and how awesome Michael Keaton is. He was amazing as Batman, and he doesn't disappoint as the Vulture. (Beej forgot to mention that he went from playing Birdman in Birdman to playing a bird-man in Spiderman. Heh heh heh.) All of the Easter eggs in Homecoming are super cool, and Beej missed a TON of them. Listen to the two Spider-Man: Homecoming episodes of The Comic Box for full coverage of those. Weekly Geekery Beej is done with WoW but has gotten back into FFXIV, is playing FFVI too, and watched Glow. Void is still playing FFXIV although this has impacted his FFV Four Job Fiesta progress!

Gaming Motivation In this episode: This is a video games podcast, but we've never really talked about WHY we play video games--either certain types of games or even why video games over other types of media.  We discuss what we get out of video games, and how we love that sweet, sweet dopamine hit. Void and Beej both look for different things in games, but they end up playing totally similar ones, too. It's fun to see how people can get value in different ways from gaming.  We discuss what games appeal to us, why, and how we look toward the future in terms of how we've changed our habits in the past. We even have a tangent on when we play games, our sleep schedules because of gaming, and cool stuff like that!
