Don't Believe It Can't Happen Here
10/11/2022 Duración: 04minMuch of the world has been watching the invasion and destruction of Ukraine by Russia these past two weeks. Despite the buildup of forces on Ukraine’s borders for months, many did not think it would actually happen—a quirk of human nature. Could something similar happen in your country? Lessons From "Squirrel Hunting"
10/11/2022 Duración: 04minAs a young teenager, there was nothing I found more enjoyable than being in the great outdoors, whether it was playing organized sports or fishing with my grandparents. My friends and I particularly enjoyed Summer, when we would be gone from breakfast until dusk looking for things to do that wouldn’t get us into trouble (and sometimes things that did get us into trouble). We relished the opportunity to wander the neighbourhood and the nearby forests and creeks, creating lasting memories. But most exciting of all was a weekend with “Gramps and Granny.” Read the full commentary here - https://www.tomorrowsworld.org/commentary/lessons-from-squirrel-hunting

A Mountain And A Hope
10/11/2022 Duración: 04minOn a cool fall day right around Thanksgiving, I was sitting on the front porch of my son’s and daughter-in-law’s home enjoying a cup of coffee, taking in the beautiful bright red and orange colors of the foliage on the hillside that is part of Petit Jean Mountain. Listening to the birds and all the other sounds not heard in a city, and surrounded by this peaceful beauty, I wanted to know: How did Petit Jean Mountain get its name? How Do You Fix a Broken World?
10/11/2022 Duración: 04min“If it ain't broke, don’t fix it,” goes the old saying. It seems that some people have got to change things for the sake of change. The way they think is that if something is old, it must be wrong—and it’s their job to come up with something new. Somehow they believe that if something is new, it must be better, which of course is not always the case. Progress is not always as simple as that. You Can See Invisible Things
10/11/2022 Duración: 04minLots of things are invisible to our eyes. For example, we cannot see gravity, radio waves, or sound. In the world of make-believe, magic cloaks or rings can make one invisible. In science fiction, cloaking devices make spaceships invisible. Scientists work with stealth technology to try to make things seem invisible, or as close as possible. But, what about the truly invisible things? Seeing the Whole Elephant
10/11/2022 Duración: 04minI remember fondly an old children's story called The Blind Men and the Elephant. This profound yet simple story is a great illustration of the limitations of human perception. Read the full commentary at https://www.tomorrowsworld.org/commentary/seeing-the-whole-elephant

The Messiah Misunderstood
10/11/2022 Duración: 04minOnce, during a trip to the United Kingdom, I had the opportunity to visit the National Gallery in London. This imposing complex of great buildings houses some of the finest examples of art from the Renaissance and earlier periods, along with works of art from more recent times. As I walked through the great galleries and observed the ancient paintings, large and small, I was struck by the recurring theme of most of the works, especially from the Middle Ages up through the 19th century. They were almost exclusively religious scenes or depictions of biblical stories, biblical characters, various saints, and often events in the life of Jesus Christ. Many paintings contained mythical characters, such as winged cherubs shown as infants or small children. Further, many of the subjects in the paintings had halos or some other characteristic depiction of holiness or religiosity. Ancient Paths
10/11/2022 Duración: 05minAncient paths, found on every continent, were used by people living centuries ago to travel from place to place and trade their goods. These ancient pathways were the best route—or sometimes the only route—to take to arrive safely at the desired destination. Real Hope is NOT Just a Wish
10/11/2022 Duración: 04minWe live in trying and stressful times. Now, more than ever, we need to have hope. Today, hope is generally considered a feeling of wishing for or desiring something. The Instruction to "Work Out Your Own Salvation"
10/11/2022 Duración: 04minA legendary investor sometimes referred to as the “Oracle of Omaha” is one of the wealthiest men in the world, with his net worth estimated at $90.6 billion as of January 2020. Warren Buffett is known as an astute businessman and philanthropist with an uncanny track record of selecting companies that will achieve long-term success. Through the decades, his companies have thrived. Yet he does not micromanage his vast, varied enterprises. It is said that he carefully chooses the person to head one of his acquired companies, lays out his goals and expectations, and then leaves that person to run the organization, usually checking on results annually. Muddy Waters
10/11/2022 Duración: 03minHave you ever had a song lyric stuck in your head? It could be a tune that you have not heard for years, coming to mind when you least expect it. That happened to me once. It was an old country song of hardship and pain in which the chorus wailed, “I washed my hands in muddy water. I washed my hands but they didn’t come clean. I tried to do like Daddy told me, but I must have washed my hands in a muddy stream.” Read the full commentary at https://www.tomorrowsworld.org/commentary/muddy-waters

In Pastures Green
10/11/2022 Duración: 04minIn this time when we are all being urged to "go green" in every part of our daily lives, we may lose sight of the word picture painted in Psalm 23, which is probably the most oft quoted Psalm in the Bible. I like the way it is expressed in the old English hymn by William Havergal, a well-known writer of hymns (1793–1870). The Old Dirt Road
10/11/2022 Duración: 04minFor years, my dad has run—not jogged—down an unpaved road located just a few miles from our home. “The Old Dirt Road,” as we called it, was just one of the many farm roads that decorate the American South. This three-mile, undeveloped byway served my father well for his exercise of choice after a hard day’s work. It also served me, by giving me a chance to learn an important lesson from my father about planning for the future. Older But Wiser?
10/11/2022 Duración: 04minAre we guaranteed to be wiser and more mature in ten or fifteen years than we are today? Looking back, can we see the evidence of greater wisdom and understanding in our own lives today compared to a decade ago? If you have never put much thought into this subject, the answer might be “no”—but that could change. Read the full commentary at https://www.tomorrowsworld.org/commentary/older-but-wiser

A Bad Combination
10/11/2022 Duración: 04minMuch has been said about what makes a winning team, whether in sports, the workplace, or even relationships. It sometimes comes down to “chemistry” and an entire “team’s” willingness to pull together, whether it’s a team of eleven, twenty, or two. The Hebrew Scriptures have a great deal of information concerning teamwork—or the lack thereof. Let us consider one warning against a bad combination before taking a look at what God is doing. 10/11/2022 Duración: 03minEditor's Note: Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, the world has seen many changes and countless people have suffered hardship and loss, both due to the virus and to the effects of nations’ efforts to combat it. The Sadness of King Charles III - William Bowmer
09/09/2022 Duración: 06minEvery monarch has a public face put forward to unify the nation, as well as a private heart shaped by personal joys and sorrows. King Charles III has ascended to the British throne at 73 years of age—47 years older than Queen Elizabeth II was at the time of her ascension. Unlike his mother, who began her rule in her twenties, Charles has already spent a lifetime shaped by sadness that will color his service as King.
