  • Tripwire Magazine: Interview with Scott Dunbier (Comics For Ukraine, 21/04/22)

    21/04/2022 Duración: 12min

Uploaded in association with Tripwire Magazine Esteemed comics art archivist, editor and all-round industry legend Scott Dunbier has, like so many of us, been horrified by the atrocities being undertaken by Russian forces as the invasion of Ukraine continues. The images of Ukrainian refugees fleeing the attacks have moved Scott to call on his not-unimpressive Rolodeck of comics luminaries, many of which have answered the call to create a special graphic novel with the aim to raise as much money for those in need during the conflict. Here, Joel Meadows (Tripwire Magazine) talks to Scott about the genesis of the project, what it's taken to bring it to fruition and what is next for Comics For Ukraine. Post-production / editing / intro sting: Leonard Sultana (An Englishman In San Diego)

We find out from two attendees - one reporting on, and one exhibiting at , the festival - what it's really been like with boots on the ground at this usua

It only feels like yesterday when we were chatting to one impressively talented woman in comics - Amanda Deibert, last Sunday - and now we have another one joining us on an Incidental Episode: writer Stephanie Phillips. And in that week, all sorts of plans have changed about what we were going to discuss: at first, I thought the focus, quite deservedly, would be on her new Aftershock Comics release, the telekinesis/conspiracy thriller RED ATLANTIS, which is up to issue #2 and has been blowing me away, frankly. But no, earlier this week it has also been announced that Stephanie will be joining the creative team on the new HARLEY QUINN ongoing series from DC Comics. In other words, everything's coming up Phillips!!. Join us

But Amanda's also been keeping very engaged with her fans and followers on social media over the summer... what kind of toll does this level of workload and engagement have on a person? How have the shifting sands of the past year affected those deep in the professional creative arts? We'll be talking all this and more. We're also going to be joined by Mark Searby, who hasn't popped by to chat with us for a while: as one of

  • Talkin' Con: A Cup O' Tea with An Englishman In San Diego s08e18 Aditya Bidikar

    27/11/2020 Duración: 01h17min

s08e18 - In Conversation with letterer ADITYA BIDIKAR Catch the full livestream as it goes out live by being a Patreon supporter of the channel: www.patreon.com/EnglishmanSDCC There are a couple of elements when it comes to the publication of the modern comic book which could almost be considered 'the Dark Arts' - editing, colouring and lettering. The latter is almost certainly the last in the pecking order of comics creation but, in my mind, one of the most important as the lettering of a book is equivalent to the sound design of a film: an aspect that can ties an entire project together and give it the flavour which defines it. One of the busiest - and most popular - letterers on the circuit today is Aditya Bidikar, a name you may have seen on many of the biggest books on the shelves today. Aditya joins us to peel away some of the mystery of the art of lettering, explain the working relationships he has with many of his creative teams and discusses some of the books he's working on right now. ----------

s08e17 - In Conversation with Den Of Geek's Editor-In-Chief MIKE CECCHINI Catch the full livestream as it goes out live by being a Patreon supporter of the channel: www.patreon.com/EnglishmanSDCC This year's global pandemic has had over-arcing, devastating and lasting effects - on lives, on businesses, on lifestyles and cultures. I have to accept that what I do with An Englishman In San Diego can come off as a bit vacuous in the backdrop of such terrible loss. But how we as cultures celebrate the art and distractions of life, and our ability to do so, define the strength of those cultures - to paraphrase, "If we cannot enjoy life, surely it may not be a life worth living." But we have to acknowledge the facts that the landscapes of pop culture and fandom have shifted irrevocably and possibly forever. Cinema, television, comics, music and literature and more... the methods of enjoying these, the businesses creating them, the audiences embracing them... it's all shifting on almost a day-to-day basis. And sit

s08 Incidental Episode - In Conversation with AL EWING Catch the full livestream as it goes out live by being a Patreon supporter of the channel: www.patreon.com/EnglishmanSDCC Okay, talk about 'prolific': somebody who had seriously been burning the candle at both ends when it comes to putting out incredible comics, as well as being the part of the architectural teams behind some of the biggest comic events in recent years, you have to talk about the incredible and compelling Al Ewing. NEW AVENGERS, AVENGERS: NO ROAD HOME, ROYALS, IMMORTAL HULK, Marvel Comics' EMYPRE... nobody seems to have a knack for the bigger picture stories than Al, pushing the boundaries of what's expected from even the most established characters. And he's taking that scale and ambition to his new creator-owned project, WE ONLY FIND THEM WHEN THEY'RE DEAD (teamed with master artist Simone Di Meo), in a story that's taking space opera, thriller adventure and Kirby-like gods in a while new direction. We're lucky to speak to Al Ewing

In the comics, television and fandom industries, the changes have been radical and far-reaching and will impact pop culture well into 2021. One man who has been analysing the ebbs and flows of the business of pop culture is iCV2/Forbes writer Rob Salkowitz, a good friend of the Talkin' Con livestream and it's great to have Rob back to talk over what he feels we could be enjoying in the New Year - and when.
