Dan and Raul are back with a new episode in their Essential 80's film series, and this one takes us back to 1985 for one of the first films Madonna appeared in.  The film isn't great, but both the guys respect the movie for what it set forth to accomplish in terms of dealing with conventional movie tropes in a fresh way.   DTW is glad to have tackled this movie and it's worth seeing, but for modern audiences it feels a little dated.  Hoping to do more 80's films soon! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

Dan and Raul review the streaming platform, Quibi, that provides content in small chunks with no video longer then 10 minutes. They go over a bunch of new shows that have come out on the service since it premiered, which includes comedy shows as well as shows that are like movies broken up into smaller films and run for 10-15 short episodes. Here's the thing; Dan was very skeptical about this show from jump, but Raul wanted to give it a chance as he is somewhat more into the fantasy genre then Dan but still not really into. Needless to say, we didn't really enjoy The Witcher (streaming now on Netflix), and Dan for sure won't keep watching but Raul may give it a few more episodes. Dan and Raul watched the first few episodes of this new Amazon-original series that they had heard really positive things about and were curious to see if it lived up to the hype. The show is animated in a very unique manner called rotoscoping, where everything is filmed like a normal live-action show or movie but then is painted over to look animated, and Undone utilizes this decision in a great way! Dan and Raul discuss the new show, Servant, from brand new platform, AppleTV+. Discussed also are some of the new shows on the streaming service, but we decided this new series was the most interesting one to cover. We also thought that it was created/directed/written by M. Night Shyamalan, but this is NOT the case, and in fact he only is an executive producer and director of two of the seasons episodes. This still is a very important role as the first director of many new series sets the visual tone for a new show, so we can appreciate his involvement none the less. Dan and Raul have both read the original source material on which this show is based, so there is much setup and background info to get thru before delving into this really great/wonderful/ambitious series that nobody thought possible or saw coming into the world. The show looks amazing but also discussing many issues related to our world today, even if the show takes place in an alternate reality 2019. So, who should be "Watching the Watchmen"?...All of you! For Halloween Week the guys decide to go back and cover 2 of the early "dead" films, although they aren't exactly as connected as would be assumed! "Night" started it all over 50 years ago, but in the 80's "Return" brought zombies back but from a different and more comedic level as the rules were changed as far as how the dead operate and function. Dan and Raul delve into this straight-to-Netflix film based on the popular Funny or Die web-series, and luckily they have some knowledge on the creative team behind it as well.
