I don’t always talk about real estate, even though that is how I supported myself for the majority of the last 5 years. But every so often something happens that I feel obligated to write about in an effort to hopefully help distance myself from the deceptive behaviors I see on a regular basis in the real estate industry. I get frustrated as I scrape and claw for every client I work with only to be done in by the unethical behavior of my competitors. This is why authenticity and generosity are the two pillars of my business. It may make business growth slower but ultimately I’d rather be kept awake at night because of a lack of clients rather than a lack of morals. If I want to still be able to support my family 5 years from now, I can't ignore the overwhelming evidence that shows that my way of making a living today may not exist 10 years from now. Netflix, Amazon, Uber, and AirBnB all disrupted their respective industries by going direct-to-consumer and cutting out the middle-man. The next logical step is for companies like Zillow and RedFin to facilitate real estate transactions directly between home-buyers and home-sellers. In fact, most agents pay fees to these companies for leads, so in a sense they are funding the companies who are trying to put the agent out of business. I was recently asked by a teacher friend to be a presenter for "Career Day." I spoke about how I became a professional actor, what it's like to work at Sight & Sound Theatres, and how I used a career in real estate to help me work toward my dream job.
