14/04/2019 Duración: 58minHello, Podcast Pursuers! In this episode, gear duo Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) get a case of the Haneys when they read Teen Titans #12 by Bob Haney and Irv Novick, published by DC Comics in 1967! After dispensing the usual biographical information, the fab fellas dive right into every page of this way-out comic book, lending their voices and a little bit of cynicism to the otherwise silly occurrences. Then they look at a history of satellites, and how they might have shaped this comic's attitudes toward space exploration in general. Reggie's Comics Stories ep. 13 - Comic Book Implosion
10/04/2019 Duración: 36minHey everyone! In this less-raspy, less-echo-filled episode, Reggie talks at you about the DC Comics Explosion/Implosion, which happened in 1978, and reads some excerpts from Comic Book Implosion, compiled by Keith Dallas and John Wallace for TwoMorrows Publishing. This book provides a unique look at DC Comics' period of change, as well as what the rest of the comics industry was up to at the time, and comes with the highest recommendation. Just a few tidbits to wet your whistle, then it's off to the library or bookstore with you! patreon.com/chrisandreggie weirdcomicshistory@gmail.com @cosmictmill @reggiereggie chrisandreggie.com Check out TwoMorrows.com to find out more about this book!

Cosmic Treadmill, Episode 135 - Hip Hop Family Tree #1 (2015)
07/04/2019 Duración: 01h18minGreeting, b-boys and b-girls! In this episode, culture vultures Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) explore the earliest days of hip-hop music and culture when they read Ed Piskor's Hip-Hop Family Tree #1, published by Fantagraphics in 2015! After talking about Ed Piskor's rising career, our music historians go through every page of this issue, lending their improbable voice talent to these actual persons. After a short break, they come back to talk a little bit about New York, to help situate the uninitiated listener and explain some of the reasons why hip-hop developed where and when it did. This episode is sure to have you doing windmills into a backspin, you don't want to miss it! REGGIE'S NOTE: Apologies for the sound quality of my voice. I just moved into a new place and there's a lot of echo. Pretend it's a vocal effect. 27/03/2019 Duración: 31minHello folks! In this episode of Reggie's Comics Stories, Reggie (@reggiereggie) attempts to overcome a lingering sickness to bring you an interview with artist John Mejias, who is coming to a close on his graphic novel The Puerto Rican War--a work wherein all the panels are done in woodcut! Reggie muses about the line between fine art and comics, and then tries to talk up Mr. Mejias without gushing over how much he likes the work. And fails. But don't let that stop you from checking out this book when it comes out! Chris is on Infinite Earths, Episode 13: Gon, Book I of IV (1996)
20/03/2019 Duración: 01h02minThis week's episode is a little bit different from our usual superhero fare... actually, it's a whole lot different. Today we're going to meet a tiny dinosaur named Gon (created by Masashi Tanaka), and take a look at his first tankōbon volume, which contains three stories... and zero words! Ya see, Chris (@acecomics) picked this book to review before heading out on vacation, thinking its lack of words would make for a quick and easy synopsis. Let's just say, he learned a lesson in "cutting corners" that day. This episode also includes a brief discussion of the DC Comics imprint that published this (Paradox Press), the audio version of vacation slides... sure to thrill, and the second installment of our "Comics Hot Take" segment! Cosmic Treadmill Presents... Comix Tawk, Episode 6: The Four Kinds of Fans
17/03/2019 Duración: 56minHello folks! Since we're still under the weather at Cosmic Treadmill HQ, we've decided to lift the paywall over at patreon.com/chrisandreggie and share with the public a fairly recent episode of Comix Tawk! Comix Tawk is a twice-monthly exclusive program wherein Chris (@acecomics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) have an off-the-cuff conversation about the industry we hold so dear. Sometimes they get a little too passionate... this might be one of those times. This one based around the "Four Kinds of Fans," as stated by wrestling promoter and personality Jim Cornette. But don't worry, this certainly isn't a wrestling podcast: Chris and Reggie relate these four fandoms to comic books, and opine on how appealing to one group over others is, well, foolhardy! In the spirit of our old Young Animal Gatherum (all 30 hours of which are available in the archives), we have decided to begin compiling our discussions of The Sandman Universe titles, which appear as segments on the Weird Science DC Comics Podcast. Listen along as a long-time Sandman fan (@reggiereggie) takes a neophyte (@acecomics) under his wing, and together they try and make sense of this sorta-new/sorta-not Sandman Universe! -- Today's discussions originally aired in segment form during the following episodes of the Weird Science DC Comics Podcast: Episode 188 (08.12.2018) - The Sandman Universe #1 Episode 192 (09.09.2018) - The Dreaming #1 Episode 193 (09.16.2018) - House of Whispers #1 Episode 196 (10.07.2018) - The Dreaming #2 Episode 197 (10.14.2018) - House of Whispers #2 -- patreon.com/chrisandreggie weirdcomicshistory@gmail.com chrisandreggie.com @cosmictmill weirdsciencedccomics.com chrisisonin

Cosmic Treadmill, Episode 132 - Jack Chick's "Dark Dungeons"
10/03/2019 Duración: 01h17minHello, Panicking Pals! This week we were unable to release an all-new episode, and so we decided to share a sampling from the Cosmic Treadmill, After Dark Collection (exclusive to Chris and Reggie Patrons). During this episode, we look at Evangelist Jack Chick and his comic book tracts, and the Satanic Panic of the 1980s and 1990s, and how it fueled Jack's ministry. We also read the tract "Dark Dungeons" in its entirety... it does deal with very adult themes--so put the kids to bed before listening. Thanks to everyone for your support, and please let us know if there are any questions or suggestions! -- Links Mentioned During the Episode: chick.com Jack Chick documentary: http://www.cultureunplugged.com/documentary/watch-online/filmedia/play/2330/God-s-Cartoonist---The-Comic-Crusade-of-Jack-Chick -- patreon.com/chrisandreggie weirdcomicshistory@gmail.com chrisandreggie.com @cosmictmill weirdsciencedccomics.com chrisisoninfiniteearths.com

Chris is on Infinite Earths, Episode 12: Mother Panic #1 (2017)
06/03/2019 Duración: 01h23minNo, gentle listener, this isn't the return of the Young Animal Gatherum... This time out, I give a peek behind the curtain and tells the story about how a review he did on a site other than his own, managed to affect change on Chris is on Infinite Earths! What happened when Chris received his first bit of clapback? Well, lemme tell ya, It's a story of angry comments, curse words, appeals to motive, and over-reaction... with just a little bit of ranting about the current sensationalized comics reviewing "culture". It's somehow even less provocative than it sounds! PLUS: The introduction of a potential new segment... COMICS HOT TAKE, wherein I will attempt to analyze the initial reactions of comic fans when changes are made to the hobby we hold so dear. For this "pilot" installment, in tying in with my #ActionComicsDaily project, I will be taking a look at the Letter Page from Action Comics Weekly #605 (1988), which features the first bit of feedback DC Comics received on the weekly anthology format... fr

Cosmic Treadmill, Episode 131 - Dinosaurs Attack! #1 (2013)
03/03/2019 Duración: 01h30minSay hello to yesteryear, comic book enthusiasts! In this episode, time-travelers Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) take a trip to the Mesozoic Age...or was that the Devonian? They check in on some ancestors that never quite existed when they read Dinosaurs Attack! by Gary Gerani, Herb Trimpe, and Earl Norem, published by IDW in 2013! After the necessary biographical information, our saurian scientists dive into the 1988 Topps trading card set that birthed this comic book series, and look at why it began at one publisher almost thirty years ago, but concluded at IDW. After a reading of the issue and a brief intermission, these temporal physicists tell the rest of this bizarre and probably overly-complex story, and wrap it up with a history of trading cards--the gory edition. It's an episode steeped in viscera and pseudo-science, you don't want to miss it! Reggie's Comics Stories ep. 11 - Arnold Drake's Memo
27/02/2019 Duración: 33minHello, fans of the weird! In this episode, Reggie talks about one of his favorite creators, Arnold Drake, and concentrates on a memo he wrote in 1966 to DC Comics' executives about changing their content to be more like Marvel. It's very strangely worded, so it requires a little deconstruction! After a look at the editorial landscape at Marvel at the time, they go through every page of this book, lending their commentary and vocal rudeness along the way. Then they discuss the mysterious Writer "X", who it could have been...and who it actually is! Chris is on Infinite Earths, Episode 11: Batman #416 (1988)
20/02/2019 Duración: 01h36sGreetings teen-aged sidekicks! This time out, Chris (@acecomics) is joined by his pal Jody Yerdon (@regalfan) to discuss one of the, in their opinion, greatest (and most underrated) Batman stories ever put to print! Batman #416 sees the post-Crisis meeting of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd... and is chock full of some amazing Bat-Family Drama! Ever late-to-the-party, Chris ranked this as the best comic book he'd read in 2016... and it is still his very favorite Batman story, despite (or possibly because) the Caped Crusader himself only appearing on a handful of pages! After some biographical info and an explanation of the twelve songs attached to the twelve issues in this series, the foolios check out all twelve of 'em--songs and comics--lending their vocal talents to only the first issue. After a break, our pious jesters look at the spiritual side of the Insane Clown Posse, explaining the "Joker cards" and the attendant entities that represent their meaning.
