On the morning of June 9th, 1986, employees at Hollywood's First Interstate Bank showed up for work, preparing for the long week ahead. However, they would discover that the bank's vault had been looted - not only of $172,000 cash, but dozens of security deposit boxes. Whoever the culprits had been, they had burrowed through 100 feet of soil from a nearby sewer drain, and had drilled their way into the bank vault. Miraculously, they had done this without attracting any attention. More than a year would pass with no activity from these bandits, until they struck again a little over a year later, in the same region. Between December of 2005 and December of 2007, a serial killer terrorized sex workers in Daytona Beach, Florida. 45-year old LaQuetta Gunther was the first to be targeted, falling prey to this unknown individual on Christmas Eve 2005. 34-year old Julie Green would follow just a few weeks later - on January 13th, 2006 - and the killer would strike again a month later: killing 35-year old Iwana Patton at some point in February. Nearly two years would pass, in which the Daytona Beach Police Department urgently tried to find the killer. Unfortunately, he would surface once more in December of 2007 to murder 30-year old Stacey Gage, before disappearing once and for all. Police believe that the suspect has since moved on from the region, but a cavalcade of suspects and theories continue to haunt those affected by the case... From 2013 to 2016, a series of high-profile crimes shook the region of Bardstown, Kentucky. But predating all of them was a mysterious murder. Daniel Cahoe was a 34-year old father, who was known to live as a bit of a drifter. Kindhearted and simple-minded, Daniel was known for his helpful spirit and his love of the outdoors. On January 5th, 2012, Daniel's remains were found in a barn out in rural Spencer County. Through 2015 and 2016, the region of Bardstown was marshaled behind one family as they fought to find their missing loved one: Crystal Rogers. The patriarch of this family, 54-year old Tommy Ballard, was no stranger to tragedy. He had endured the loss of a sister in his early adulthood, and had worked hard to ensure the safety and happiness of his family in the years since. In November of 2016, Tommy Ballard was just as active in the search for his daughter as ever. On July 3rd, 2015, Crystal Rogers was last seen by anyone. She had been planning to spend the evening with her boyfriend, Brooks Houck, and had excitingly told a friend about finally enjoying a child-free night. Crystal, a mother of five, had been dating Brooks for a few years. The two had one child together (an infant son named Eli), and even though their relationship wasn't perfect, it seemed okay from the outside looking in. When Crystal's maroon Chevy Impala was found along the Bluegrass Parkway two days later, Crystal was reporting missing. Her disappearance would spark the third major criminal investigation in as many years, and - to this day - Crystal's whereabouts remain unknown. On the evening of January 18th, 2016, a young man named Daniel Shaver was checked into a hotel room in Mesa, Arizona. He was in-town for business, having left his wife and two daughters behind at their home in Granbury, Texas.Daniel was enjoying life, and invited two guests to his hotel room for some drinks. There, he decided to show them his pellet guns (which he used for his work at a pest removal company). Some guests saw him handling these perceived weapons through his open window, and decided to warn the front desk. This led to a 911 call, and - ultimately - an encounter with police. At the end of the evening, Daniel Shaver would be dead... while the young officer that pulled the trigger found himself facing murder charges. On November 22nd, 1987, Chicago's channel 9 (WGN) was briefly interrupted. During the Sunday evening news, viewers were greeted by a bizarre masked man, who came upon their screen for a little under 20 seconds before disappearing. This announcement was made on Reddit to very little fanfare. Other than serving as a moderator on a creepy subreddit, /u/ReligionOfPeace was known for being an old, gruff weirdo, who claimed to have a storied military history. However, over the coming months, curious web-sleuths began to dig into the history of these two Reddit accounts, and found that they were each linked to a website. On October 13th, 2011, an animal rescue group in Bethany, Oklahoma made a startling discovery: two bags, which contained the dismembered human remains of a young woman.Police would eventually identify the remains as 19-year old Carina Saunders, a bright-but-troubled young woman that had disappeared just days before.
