When we decide something within us is unnacceptable, it becomes abhorent in others and we exercise judgement. Until we are prepared to look at the external environment of capitalism, consumerism, social media comparison, perfectionism will continue to thrive within us and between us

Claire Sullivan is here on Chewing It Over with Jack discussing the ongoing Strike action by CSP members over NHS pay.   Some would say it is never justified to strike and compromise patient care, others would counter with patient care is already compromised through stretching staff far too thin.   What do you think? STUDY LINK  As part of a doctorate in Physiotherapy at Glasgow Caledonian University, Daniel is conducting a study looking at the incidence of burnout in UK based Physiotherapists.    Jo discuss the shocking fact that Daniel's initial studies show a high rate of burnout in Physiotherapy students, before they have even started the job.   They reflect on what is perfectionsim, ask why the profession attracts perfectionists and discuss how we may be unwittingly driving each other to higher levels of perfectionism.   Jo also asks Daniel for his thoughts on the potential future value of this work for physiotherapists and healthcare. We managed to steal a few minutes of the very busy Benoy Mathew while we had our pop up studio at Therapy Expo. Jack had a great chat with him about the overlooked side-effects of shockwave and his clinically useful book about Hips and Knees

We started a new segment when we visited Therapy Expo called "Change My Mind". In this Jack Chew posed the statement that "We Can't Meaningfully Alter Tissue With Manual Therapy". It is a contentious statement especially at a show with a lot of massage booths, tape and tissue sports guns. A really interesting conversation that will test bias on both sides of the argument.

In session 101 Lorimer Moseley stated "Nociception is neither sufficient nor necessary for pain" There was a good deal of pushback on social media regarding this and Asaf Weisman has stepped up to discuss why that is. Jack and Asaf discuss nociception from an evolutionary stand point and why this is important, they then go on to discuss the brain centric nature of research.
