Dave Downing is a living legend in the snowboard world who is married to another living legend, Shannon Dunn Downing.  But he’s so much more than just a husband.  He’s a surfer shop rat who landed a job as a snowboard sales rep and somehow, was able to turn that into 15 years of pro snowboarding before becoming one of the most real ambassadors/whatever he does for Burton, that there is.  It’s a history lesson this week that brings it all the way to today…. Andy Mahre comes from legendary ski blood.  His dad and his twin brother are Olympic Medalists and were part of the fabric of 80’s Americana.  Andy’s skiing is a totally different direction compared to where his dad was taking skiing.  While Andy did race for a bit, he left that world to become one of the more innovative skiers of his time, with his effortless switch landings, huge drops, and calm style that have inspired a generation of skiers.  It’s another do not miss episode. Matty Benedetto owes everything he has today to the ski industry.  This self-described Evil Genius is the master of his domain through his internet property, Unnecessary Inventions but his roots in action sports stared as a kid on the message boards of newschoolers.com.  From there he started a brand that would become an underground success in the ski world, had a life changing injury, came out, became successful and then organically became a budding TikTok star.  It’s a great podcast with an interesting dude…. Bob Soven has been in the wakeboarding game since the sport was invented pretty much. His older brother Phil, aka Froggy, was one of the most dominant riders of the time and Bob, who was known as Robert or Tadpole, was the little brother that didn’t want to be anything like his older brother. Bob was always the more likable Soven and over his career, he won, not as much as his brother but while his brother is done with wakeboarding, Bob is still one of the more influential guys in the sport. Paul Basagoitia’s life has been a rollercoaster of insanity.  He powered through a dysfunctional childhood by racing his bike.  When his race career came to an abrupt halt do to lack of support at home, his bike became an escape.  Then he met Cam Zink, eventually got on a mountain bike, had overnight success, became a pro, and had a life altering injury.  We talk about it all on this heavy podcast.
