Marking this milestone and at the behest of you dear dear listeners, we are dropping an episode every day with the theme being my Top 10 Favourite Horror movies of All Time (or at least until I change them again on September 1st 2023). At Number 1 is just my favourite horror movie of all time!! The Thing (1982) is peak John Carpenter at his most nihilistic and focused storytelling self. Possibly the best Science Fiction horror of all time, Possibly the best remake of all time, Possible the best practical effects of all time and more certainly one of the most awesome horror movies ever made. It took a little longer than I think John Carpenter expected for this movie to find its audience but at this point it is overtaking The Thing itself in how fast the love has spread. At Number 2 is a movie which is the very definition of cinematic masterpiece. Stanley Kubrick didn’t come from a pedigree of making horror cinema but given the rights to adapt one of the scariest novel by one of the scariest authors of all time, you know something is going to be special here. The final result is The Shining (1980), a movie which almost transcends the genre and is full of incredible performances, cinematic porn and a score to die for. At Number 3 it’s time to step up into a different level of terror. I was 18 years old when The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) played on UK tv uncut and it terrified me in ways I didn’t know a movie could. Part hellscape, part fever dream & all surreal terror…Tobe Hooper’s feature debut stands tall as the shift change in the tone and delivery of horror in cinema and marked a direct change in horror post it’s release. To this day, it stand tall as one of THEE best horror movies of all time. Join me tomorrow as we take a look at Number 2 on the list. Whilst it’s not my favourite film in this directors filmography, when it comes to all time favourite horror movies it’s hard to argue that SUSPIRIA (1977) is just a completely different level in the genre. Vivid, dreamlike and with a score to die for, Dario Argento moved over from Giallo into the world of fairytale and witchcraft with an ease that showed he really was the maestro of modern horror in the 1970’s. SUSPIRIA stands a head a shoulders above most witchcraft movies and looks as good in 2023 as it did back 1977. Join me tomorrow as we take a look at Number 3 on the list. Our RSS

Not many movies can boast not 1…but 2 of the greatest on screen serial killers in the same movie (sorry Freddy VS Jason) and still manage to deliver Oscar winning performances, incredible direction, classic score and maybe the most overlooked final girl in the genre. Hereditary (2018) is the debut feature of Ari Aster who took the horror fans by the scruff of the neck and introduced them to the powerhouse performances, grief unflinching, layered themes, the uncomfortable and bizarre world of disparate family dynamics, occultism and decapitations. At Number 7 it’s time to talk Argento!! It’s not his best film, in my humble opinion, but it is my favourite Argento movie. Tenebrae (1982) was Argento’s return to Gialli cinema after a stint of supernatural horror movies in Suspiria (1977) & Inferno (1980) and boy did he come out swinging. Part Slasher, part Giallo and part commentary on how the critics had maligned his back catalogue as misogynist. Tenebrae stand up as maybe his more straight forward Giallo but still twisty and turny nonetheless. Join me tomorrow as we take a look at Number 6 on the list. Vengeance is a dish best served cold by Mandy (2018) warms by blackened heart as Panos Cosmatos follows up one of my favourite modern Sci Fi movies, Beyond the Black Rainbow, with Nic Cage, Cenobite Bikers, Chainsaw battles, LDS fuelled visions and black metal fonts….oh did I mention its all marinated in neon lighting?? Oh that's right…Mandy is my number 8.
