Kevin starts the episode by breaking down the current standing and where each playoff race stands with under three weeks left in the regular season. The American League teams are all but set, but the matchups could still go a number of directions. In the National League suddenly the Wild Card race is heating up. Kevin then discusses each teams most pleasant surprise of the 2022 season. Aaron Judge is having a historical season, but Matt Carpenter has been a bigger surprise for the Yankees. Whether its a rookie who has stepped up or a veteran getting his first chance, Kevin gives a bright spot for each team. The NL East is currently a toss up after the Mets have blown a 10 1/2 game lead and the AL Central is a three horse race where each team has multiple series remaining against east opponent. Kevin begins the episode by discussing the Little League World Series. Hawaii defeated Tennessee for the USA Title, and Curaco beat Taiwan for the International Title. The two teams will meet for the World Championship on Sunday. Kevin then breaks down the Julio Rodriguez MEGA-extension with the Mariners. This is one of the most interesting contracts we have ever seen. The deal is worth a minimum $210 million and potentially maxing out as the largest and longest contract in MLB history at $470 million. Kevin begins the episode by discussing the recent controversy over the "home plate collision" rule. The umpires have overturned 8 calls at plate this year, which is by far the most since the rule was implemented in 2014. A memo was sent to each team this week to reiterate how the rule will be called. Kevin then releases his week 19 power rankings. There is movement at the top of the rankings with the Braves making a push and the Yankees sliding. Right now, there are 17 teams who still have realistic playoff hopes. This is exactly what baseball wanted with the expanded postseason. Kevin wraps up the show by talking about who currently holds the playoff tiebreakers. There will no longer be a game 163 to determine who makes the postseason, it will be a head to head tiebreaker for the first time ever this season. Kevin starts the episode by giving his condolences on the recent passing of MLB legend Vin Scully. Vin passes away at the age of 94 and is know best for his 67 years are the play by play announcer of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Vin was the voice of an entire generation and has some of the greatest all time calls in sports. Kevin then hands out his grades for the recent trade deadline.
