  • Ep 61. Jonathan Bingham: CEO, Skater and Philanthropist from Janeiro Digital

    13/05/2016 Duración: 47min

Jonathan Bingham (@jwbingham ) is the CEO at @janeirodigital "a team of creative problem solvers, committed to leveraging digital expertise for the benefit of businesses across all verticals." When I first set foot in Janeiro Digital in Boston MA, I noticed a giant mural that reads RADD (Research, Analysis, Design and Development). The slightly faded paint around the characters reminded me of an old school skatepark.  Jonathan walked over and greeted me with a smile. He wore casual skater clothing from head to toe, looking incredibly confident and comfortable. We sat down on the couch in front of RADD and began talking about skateboarding non-stop. This podcast is an opportunity for me learn directly from Jonathan on the business side of things (plus a little more skating and sailing as candies for you guys). Jonathan shared his management philosophy as the CEO at Janeiro from its infancy 9 years ago to today, a thriving community of nerds (they are proud of that). These creators hustle everyday to try new

Matthew Cronin is a 21-year old student majoring Foreign Policy at Boston University. He is expected to graduate in May 2016. Matthew and I met at Inna’s Kitchen in Newton, MA, where he works part-time. Through a casual conversation over a year ago, I found out that Matthew would be studying abroad in the Middle East as part of his study-abroad program. I couldn't wait for his return and learn more about his experience.  Although study-abroad was not a requirement for his major, Matthew chose a path to learn more about the Middle East through the people and culture.  To prepare for his trip, Matthew took extensive courses in learning Arabic, a language he finds artistic and beautiful.  In this short 30-min conversation with Matthew Cronin, we discussed:  His earlier life, as a high school dropout, before Boston University  Learning Arabic: a beautiful language (by its sound and construction in a root system)  First impressions in Jordan and Morocco  Getting to the people in the Middle East  "A high-contact s

I met Karen Fan and Felege Gebru through InvenTeam, initiated by an incredible art teacher named Sue Brooks at Newton North High School. InvenTeam functions very much like a small design and technology firm, where every student on the team has a specific role such as a designer, engineer, product manager. InvenTeam chose to participate in the Lemelson-MIT competition. After a year of hard work, their project was chosen to be presented at the White House Science Affair in 2014. President Barack Obama greeted the students and even asked questions about the project. When I received an email from Mrs. Brooks about this update, I almost fell out of my chair at work. • Ep 50. Srini Rao: What it takes to be an Unmistakeable Creative

    17/12/2015 Duración: 42min

Srini Rao (@umistakableCEO) is the host and founder of The Unmistakable Creative podcast where he has conducted over 600 interviews with thought leaders and people from all walks of life. Srini has a distinctive view into branding, storytelling, and marketing.  Unmistakeable Creative isn't your typical popular podcast. As a listener, you never hear from the same people or experience common topics.  Srini loves asking questions that have never been asked before. He doesn't let anyone off the hook easy as he expects no easy answers. Interviewing Srini wasn't a walk-in-the-park either. Instead of focusing on his achievements, putting Unmistakeable Creative on a pedestal, I took a different approach to delve into his daily practice, routines and beliefs. I hope you take away as much as you can TODAY (not tomorrow) to practice what Srini has taught us.  We cover a lot in this episode including: How Srini first discovered the magic of surfing, which has been an integral part of his creative life in the past 7 year

  • Ep 49: Chris Edwards on Balls: A Story of Hope

    06/12/2015 Duración: 01h09min

Chris is the author of the book called Balls: It takes some to get some, because "Changing your gender from female to male takes balls. And if you’re gonna do it in front of 500 coworkers at the largest ad agency in Boston, you better have a pretty big set!" Prior to focusing on Balls as a freelance writer, Chris was the EVP Group Creative Director at Arnold Worldwide - this is the company I've been working for for the past 2 years.  Chris' transition from female to male took years and it was a part of his memory that is very painful to look back on. Chris made a decision to step out of his comfort zone and tell his story, a success story that other transgender people, their parents, families, friends, and everyone else can relate to, and to understand what it means to us, what it means to be human. We cover a lot in this episode including:  It's been 20 years, why coming out now?  FAQ - what's OK or ask, and what's not to a transgender person Family dynamics and how Chris revealed his story to his nieces  C

What are her hopes and dreams for the show (a Top 50 iTunes podcast)? Where did Krista come from and what inspired her to do what she does today? In 2014, Krista received the National Humanities Medal at the White House from President Obama for “thoughtfully delving into the mysteries of human existence, on the air and in print." I first discovered Krista Tippett on National Public Radio and was immediately drawn to the sound of her voice and the structure she brings to a topic. She discussed and probed existential questions.

    04/10/2015 Duración: 01h12min

    30/09/2015 Duración: 01h01min

First episode recorded in Chinese!  Target audience: Mandarin speakers, intermediate to advance Mandarin language students. :) Email me at feisworld@gmail.com if you want an English translation, free of charge. --- Send in a voice messag

  • Ep 45. Jordan Clayton: Unexpected UX

    26/09/2015 Duración: 49min

Joining me on the Feisworld Podcast today is Jordan Clayton, an SVP of UX (User Experience) at Arnold Worldwide. UX has become increasingly popular over the years across all the industries (technology, marketing, medicine and beyond), but most schools still haven’t figured out a systematic and effective way to help students learn more and be properly trained on UX. As a result, many young, ambitious, creative souls find it challenging to find a UX position they qualify for. This podcast isn’t a your crash course to UX, but a lesson with deep insights to how a UX designer thinks, what he looks for in hiring, what prototyping is. Jordan offers his point of view, lessons learned and interplays through his unique career path. Jordan also argues that UX isn't just about making things useful and usable, but more fun, compelling, inspiring and more emotionally engaging as well. Beyond UX, Jordan is known as a well-dressed charismatic leader in the office. How does he achieve this kind of credibility? The answers liv

  • Ep 44. Atherton Twins: Human flight made possible

    16/08/2015 Duración: 01h04min

Andrew and Kevin Atherton are living my childhood dreams. I had to put them on this podcast. Did you dream about flying as a child? I did, nearly every single day. I loved reading comic books and imagined myself as a superhero. I often dressed like one as soon as I came home from school. Recently, my mom and I went to see our first Cirque du Soleil show ever in Boston. The show was called Varekai. While every single act was extraordinary, there was one particular segment that left both of us perpetually in awe.  Two very similar looking men flew across the entire stadium over the heads of thousands of audience, then balancing on their heads and hands 50+ ft in the air. They formations looked like paintings, statues and art we had not seen before.  They are superheroes to me. As soon as I returned from show, I looked up "Varekai aerialists straps" and found Andrew and Kevin Atherton, the identical twins, the original performers and creators behind Varekai duo-straps. I emailed them right away without expectin
