A time when family gets together and sees off one of the family as he starts the next phase of his life, whether it be college or moving into the professional world. Blog Oklahoma Podcast 63: Storm Season
16/05/2010 Duración: 13minAs many of you already know its storm season here in Oklahoma. I hope everyone is safe and sound, and my prayers go to all to stay safe, and to everyone already effected by the recent storms. If you haven't yet, I'd advise you get a storm kit together. A storm kit consists basic first aid supplies among other important items you'll need just in case the worse happens. Now we keep a bag near the door so we can quickly grab it if we have to leave for the shelter. In it well keep a flashlight, a small first aid kit, our checkbooks, a weeks worth of medication, a phone charger, a weather radio, and a change of socks. That's just little an example. I suggest you visit ready.gov and read up on what you should have in a storm kit. I'll have a link in the show notes. Blog Oklahoma Podcast 62: Allergy Season
09/05/2010 Duración: 14minThe recent spring time rains and high winds brought with them our old friends dust, mold, and pollen. That's right allergy season has finally hit the Latham household. Have you ever seen a family of three sneezing at the same time, it's kind of cool in a miserable kind of way. So its been a weekend of sticky red eyes, running noses, sneezing, coughing and a general lack of energy to do anything besides watch TV in a Benadryl haze. Fun times to say the lest. Blog Oklahoma Podcast 60: The Hard Part Done
11/04/2010 Duración: 14minIt's been one of those weeks. I am mentally tired right now. Besides working on the Blog Oklahoma clean up, it's been 'Get It Done' time at the day job, not to mention all the household chores, dealing with life in general, and hey getting a podcast out this week. The only moment of peace I've had all week were the few hours it took to mow the lawn. The first mow of the season. It's just me, the lawn, the mower, and what ever playing on my iPod at that time. It was bliss. Even though I was physically exhausted when I got done; mentally I was relaxed. Well, up until the time my son lost his key that he in his possession just mere moments before. Sigh. Hurry up lawn and grow. I need to mow. In The News: Some of the latest from the Oklahoma blog-o-sphere and the main street media Links mentioned in this episode: Music:

Blog Oklahoma Podcast 58: Big Home Hunter
29/03/2010 Duración: 13minYou would think that getting a new house would be a fairly straight forward process; you determine what you want, get a list of homes that fit that criteria and then you select one. In practice, it is a chaotic and confusing fall down a rabbit hole of increasingly complex legal and financial requirements spinning around your head like angry bees, waiting to swoop in and sting you if you make a single mistake; while at the same time trying to arrange to visit with increasingly annoyed sellers who don't want to have to stop watching jeopardy so you can see the home that they claim they want to sell. Hello this is your guest host Chad Henderson, and as you can tell, I am trying to find a home. A very big thank you to Chad for filling in for me this week. Please feel free to check out his podcast, . I'll be back next week with an all new episode. - Kevin In The News: Some of the latest from the Oklahoma blog-o-sphere and the main street media Links mentioned in this episode: Music: All Songs Pero

Blog Oklahoma Podcast 57: Is it spring yet?
22/03/2010 Duración: 15minWhen I started doing some preliminary work last night for this week's podcast there was a few inches of snow on the ground. Now as I'm recording this, I look out the home office window, and I hardly see any snow except for a few shady spots. It's amazing how Oklahoma's weather works. Really nice day Friday, blizzard Saturday, nice day Sunday. But that is the old running gag here in the state, isn't it. If you don't like the weather wait a minute. That was very much true this weekend wasn't it. In The News: Some of the latest from the Oklahoma blog-o-sphere and the main street media Links mentioned in this episode: Music: Pictures:

Blog Oklahoma Podcast 56: Play Ball
15/03/2010 Duración: 21minNow that my body's internal sense of time is all messed up due to daylight saving time, I can honestly say I have no idea what time it is. At least my sense of the seasons is still working. The weather is getting warm, the birds are singing, the weeds in my lawn are starting to turn green, oh yes I know exactly what this means. It means Baseball season is just around the corner. The Grapefruit and Cactus leagues are training right now, getting ready for that all important opening day that's less than a month away. I've already installed the new MLB AtBat iPhone app, I have my new Cubs baseball cap on order and it should arrive soon, and I've double check that I'm signed up for DirecTV's MLB Extra Innings. Oh I so am ready for Baseball. In The News: Some of the latest headlines from the Oklahoma blog-o-sphere. Links mentioned in this episode: Music:

Blog Oklahoma Podcast 54: Waiting for Spring
21/02/2010 Duración: 14minAs I record this podcast it's 32 degrees outside. How many of you are so ready for spring? There are many things you can do to get ready for spring, one of which is to start planning your garden. Here at the home office we've gotten a start our vegetable garden by planting some seeds in a starter tray. In fact that tray is about six feet away from me right now. We put it here in the office so we can keep an eye on it better, to make sure it gets plenty of water, and to make sure the cat stays out of it. In a few short weeks we'll see them sprout, and in a few weeks more after that we will be able to transfer them outside. Growing your own vegetables is a very worthwhile thing to do. And not to mention home grown tomatoes are the absolute best. Not only will it save you a little grocery money around harvest time; you'll get plenty of exercise working in your garden. Blog Oklahoma Podcast 52: Music Spectacular 5
07/02/2010 Duración: 38minDid ya ever have one of those days that started off great but then just fell apart? I was hoping to get an early start with the podcast today, but that just didn't work out. My home router has started to act up, and I've spent most the day trying to get it reconfigured so I can be online. I'm afraid it's time to buy a new one, but that's just going to have to wait for another time because I'm on a deadline today. It's Super Bowl Sunday, and I'm planning to spend the evening eating hot wings and watching some football. So what to do? I think it's about time for another Music Spectacular. Where we look back to some of the best music played here on the Blog Oklahoma Podcast over the last few episodes. So sit back and enjoy. And I'll be back next time with an all new episode, as soon as I get this stupid router fixed. Links mentioned in this episode: Music:

Blog Oklahoma Podcast 51: A Monochromatic Weekend
31/01/2010 Duración: 13minI hope everyone is safe and warm on this most monochromatic of weekends. I'm sure most of you have looked out a window this morning and saw nothing but white. Here in the west OK we had some defrosting on Saturday, but that's been stopped dead in its tracks. Now everything is frozen again. Hard. I know this for certain because when I took our dog Widget out for a walk this morning, and I promptly slipped on the curb and fell on my ass. Now pride aside I'm fine, but at least I gave Widget a good laugh. In The News: Some of the latest headlines from the Oklahoma blog-o-sphere and the main street media. Blog Oklahoma Podcast 50: Tumbl'n Along
25/01/2010 Duración: 14minJust get back into the swing of things and what happens? Tax season. The entire family is impatiently waiting for all our W-forms and other tax information to come in so we can file our taxes. This year it's doubly important we get ahead of things, because we get to fill out, for the first time, financial aid forms necessary for our son's high educational needs coming this fall. And I have come to the conclusion that former military bureaucrats are running financial aid offices. It's all hurry up and wait. They all want you to file early, but you can't file early until you get all your tax information in. And many organizations are in no hurry to send it to you. It's enough to make you pull your hair out. Luckily I've taken the philosophy of it'll get done when it’s done. You can't do anything about it until you get everything in. So there’s no point worrying about it. Now if I could just convince my wife and son of this, I think we'll have a more relaxed household. So how's your week been? In The News: Som

Exploring Oklahoma History Podcast 2: A Grand Outing
14/12/2009 Duración: 12minBack during the summer of 2006, my wife, son, and I decided to take a short excursion through western Oklahoma. Our goal besides having a fun family afternoon drive was to find a few historic places north of Cheyenne, Oklahoma Podcast Correction: I transposed the highway numbers when I recorded the podcast. Highway US 283 is correct. I say 238 by mistake.
