Welcome to the first episode of our new monthly show Mibbes Aye hosted by Fiona McGregor and Marlene Halliday. In Episode 1 we are joined by Dr Craig Dalzell of Commonweal who gives a presentation on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.  In particular he sets out the journey towards net zero, the progress which can be made under our current powers and what will have to wait for independence. In 2021 a Scottish Citizens Assembly was convened to consider climate change and the journey to net zero.   Work took place remotely over 7 weekends.  You can see all evidence sessions and the plenary discussions on the website https://climateassembly.scot A report with recommendations was presented to the Scottish Government, who gave a written response, both of which are available on the website. Following the Government's response, the Climate Assembly met for a final weekend 8 to consider the government's response.   As part of that weekend, a Ministerial Q and A was held with Patrick Harvie MSP and Richard Lochhead MSP where representatives of the Climate Assembly pose a series of challenging and robust questions to the Ministers. On the first anniversary of the TPNW  we ask  Scottish CND how we will rid Scotland of Trident. All the British nuclear weapons are in Scotland at Faslane Naval Base just 30 miles from Glasgow.  By renewing and increasing the number of weapons on the Clyde, the Westminster administration is breaking international law.  In this first episode of our new monthly series "the Indy Jigsaw Show", hosts Marlene Halliday and Fiona McGregor consider what can be done to rid Scotland of this obscenity with guests Isobel Lindsay, Bill Ramsay and David Cairns from Scottish CND. Building the Scottish State Show: Series 1 - Episode 18 - Prof Alf Baird On this week's show, Dr Mark McNaught is joined by Prof Alf Baird Alf Baird was, prior to his retirement in 2016, Professor of Maritime Business and Director of the Maritime Research Group at Edinburgh Napier University. He has a PhD in Strategic Management in Global Shipping. His specialist area of research and teaching is strategic management in maritime transport. His research activities encompass most of the world’s main shipping markets in Europe, Asia, Mid-East and North and Latin America, and Australasia.  He has published more than 200 research articles, plus delivered over 150 conference papers, many as invited speaker at major maritime industry events, also winning several international prizes for his applied research work and development of applied theoretical and analytical frameworks in areas such as port privatisation, strategic management in shipping, container transshipment, and shipping service feasibility studies. He

Fresh from the SNP's Autumn conference, Craig Dalzell chats with Tim Ridout about his own two conference motions, both of which were passed overwhelmingly.  Whether this will result in action from the SNP leadership remains to be seen, but Tim's proposals certainly seem to resonate with the SNP's rank and file membership

This week's guests are three young activists who were busy calling out polluters during COP.  Host Marlene quizzes them on how it feels to take direct action such as disrupting a meeting (maybe doing a little research?) and their hopes and fears for the future.    

Dr Mark McNaught's guest this week is Believe in Scotland's Gordon MacIntyre-Kemp.  Fresh from organising the delivery of an 8 page pro-independence newspaper to a million homes in Scotland, Gordon sets out his thoughts on GERs, the Wellbeing economy, likely future indyref campaign tactics and some tantalising glimpses into polling information that gives us great cause for optimism.

The role of particular scientists in opposing policies to slow and halt global warming has been extensively documented. The role of economists, however, has received less attention. Until now. We are joined by Ben Franta as part of our Road To Cop 26 series to talk about big oil and the role the industry played (supported by Economists) to deny the impact of fossil fuels in warming the planet and to delay climate action.
