The tour starts as it means to go on as the opening round of matches in B Block is headlined by the 2017 block final and the 2018 tournament final, as Kenny Omega and Tetsuya Naito battle in a G1 rubber match that sees Omega being cock of the walk with his newly acquired IWGP Heavyweight Championship facing off against a Naito who is trying to recover from losing the IWGP Intercontinental championship to Chris Jericho at the same show Omega won his seven-star match against Okada. It's the time of the year where New Japan's junior stars take centre stage, and it's the top junior rep for Los Ingobernables de Japon and Bullet Club clashing for the silver glass trophy and an IWGP Junior Heavyweight title shot against Will Ospreay a week later. It's another chapter of the feud of the decade. Whilst Kazuchika Okada may have finally surpassed his rival Hiroshi Tanahashi in the last IWGP title match between the pair at Wrestle Kingdom, he still felt he had something else to prove by extending the challenge to his elder for this match. Because victory here would see Okada surpass Tanahashi with the most successful title defences in one reign, and there was no better opponent to beat to achieve this than the original record holder. It's the first match under the auspices of WWE to gain a five-star rating from Dave Meltzer for the first time since Cena-Punk at Money in the Bank seven years earlier, and its under the NXT banner for the very first time.
