The New York Yankees completed a sweep against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday and ended their nine-game West Coast road trip 7-2 behind the performances of Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, the starting rotation, and the bullpen. Judge had himself a great homecoming in Oracle Park putting on a show for his family, friends, Yankee fans, and angry San Francisco Giants fans who booed him every time he came to the plate. Judge didn't let that bother him and batted .600 in the series with three home runs. Brian and Stacey talk about the series and how incredible both Judge and Soto were this weekend—Soto had his fifth game-winning hit of the season in the ninth inning of Sunday's game. The New York Yankees finally lost a game and it was in surprising fashion. A blown save by Clay Holmes. The Yankees had a 4-1 lead going into the ninth inning, and a combination of Holmes and shaky defense lost the game for the Yankees, who went down relatively quietly in the ninth inning. It was disappointing but there were some positives from the game. Specifically Marcus Stroman’s strong performance. Brian goes into how good the Yankees rotation has been during this stretch of games. They’re doing so well Yankees fans haven’t seen anything like this since the 1960s. Carlos Rodón has improved the most since 2023. Nestor Cortes is also doing way better than he did in 2023, and he’s healthy. The New York Yankees swept the Minnesota Twins, and Clarke Schmidt had his best start as a Yankee, throwing eight shutout innings with eight strikeouts. The offense scored five, and Yankees pitching shut down the Twins offense for 26 out of 27 innings in the series. After Ryan Jeffers's lead-off home run in the bottom of the first on Tuesday, the Yankees’ pitching didn’t allow a run. Schmidt had swing-and-miss stuff on Thursday, and the Yankees won another series. This is the 17th time since 2002 that they’ve swept the Twins in a series (regular season and playoffs combined). The New York Yankees beat the Houston Astros for the eighth time in a row in the regular season. Stacey recaps the game and focuses on the pitching matchup between Luis Gil and Justin Verlander.
