  • Episode #81: Glass

    22/01/2019 Duración: 40min

Well what do we have here another Tuesday?  You know what that means it’s time for a new Reel Film Nerds podcast for your listening pleasure!  Today your hosts talk about the latest M. Night Shyamalan flick, Glass.  Matt really starts the pod out off topic, sorry, we will work on reining him in on Thursday.  The copious off topics include the new Fyre Festival documentaries, Punisher Season 2, and Matt guest stars on The Mile High Show Episode #199 and The Blue Milk Podcast’s upcoming Episode 66 about the Sith! Mike and Mat are extremely confused about Glass.  They do not understand why the critics hate this film.  It is not the best M. Night Shyamalan movie but it is definitely not his worst.  James McAvoy’s acting is out of this world!  Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Willis do a great job as well especially during some nonverbal scenes.  The soundtrack is good and the cinematography is great except for a couple of times where it looked like they used a GoPro.  Your hosts both really enjoyed the movie but it i

  • Episode #80: Legacy - Clyde Cooper

    17/01/2019 Duración: 31min

Good day everyone!  Today Matt and Mysterious Mike have a real treat for you.  They received their first ever screener!!  Exciting right?  It is for us!  The film the guys are chatting about is titled Clyde Cooper.  It is a detective film noir murder mystery B movie that takes place in Silicon Valley.  Off topics for this episode include the Micro Machine guy, power hour, and vaping. Clyde Cooper is an interesting story but a rough execution.  The writing is really bad and flat out doesn’t make sense at times.  The acting really could have been a lot better.  Some of the camera angles and shooting styles that were chosen to tell the story did not work.  The opening of the film is very strange and could have been completely left out or explained more.  This film just left your hosts wanting more.  It feels rushed and really could have been entertaining if it was executed right.  Mysterious Mike gives Clyde Cooper 1 out 5 Reels.  Matt is a little more generous as always because he did enjoy the story as a whol

  • Episode #79: Replicas

    15/01/2019 Duración: 34min

Happy Tuesday everyone, literally it’s one of the worst days of the week.  Yes everyone says it’s Monday but we all know it is really Tuesday except for the tacos.  Today your two co-hosts review Keanu Reeves first craptastic film of 2019, Replicas.  Serious Keanu just stick with John Wick those films are incredible.  Bonus topics this week include Altered Carbon, movie critics suck, and Matt has a case of the Monday’s.  Replicas is just an all around bad movie.  The acting was terrible, they tried to cram too many stories into an hour and 47 minute film, oh and did I mention the acting was terrible, yes?, just wanted to make sure.  If you love sci-fi, cloning, and a dystopian future just go watch the Netflix TV show Altered Carbon.  It is similar to Replicas in a lot of ways but a hell of a lot better.  Matt and Mike cannot recommend anyone to go see this film.  It’s just bad.  They both graciously give it 2 out of 5 Reels. Coming up on Thursday the guys received their very first screener from a movie stud

  • Episode #78: Tributary - Bird Box

    10/01/2019 Duración: 45min

Hi everybody!  Welcome back to the Reel Film Nerds Podcast!  Today Matt’s backup mic is working great!  Overtime even because it literally picks up every sound in the room.  Today Mysterious Mike and Matt bring you a new Tributary cast with their review of Bird Box.  Off topic topics include a new segment what are you drinking, The Walking Dead, lack of time in our lives, and lastly the first RFN awards show! Bird Box is basically a mash up between A Quiet Place (RFN Episode #10) and The Happening.  It is an incredible thrill ride from start to finish.  The acting is incredible especially by Sandra Bullock and John Malkovich but honestly when do they not shine?  The story is very good, and the sets look great.  I think this is starting to become an issue, but both of your hosts agree Bird Box has a great showing for Mike and an average showing for Matt with 3.5 out of 5 Reels!  This is a must see sci-fi thriller even if you do not have Netflix.  Just steal a friend or co-workers login and watch it. Next wee

  • Episode #77: Aquaman

    08/01/2019 Duración: 37min

Hi everybody and welcome to another craptastic Reel Film Nerds podcast!  Hey its been a long time since we had a truly craptastic episode and it's all Matt's fault!  He had some serious recording issues this episode, so his audio is hot garbage.  Mysterious Mike sounds great so only have the podcast is craptastic?  Back on point, something broke in his mic and he did not know it so if you skip this pod we understand just don't skip seeing Aquaman in the theaters.  The guys still had fun and got off topic probably too much while talking about Aquaman.  Extracurricular topics include The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Disney taking over the world, Star Wars of course, and Marvel versus DC. Both of your hosts loved Aquaman.  It is a fun cheesy movie with gobs of action and incredible visuals.  This is what superhero movies are supposed to be. Not all of them must be extremely serious and grounded.  Having one be an amazing popcorn action flick where the actors had tons of fun making it is refreshing. Mysterious Mike an

  • Episode #76: Triple Feature

    03/01/2019 Duración: 51min

Welcome everyone to our first Triple Feature episode.  We did our best to keep it to a half hour but failed miserably.  Today your amazing hosts Matt and Mysterious Mike reviewed Bumblebee, Welcome to Marwen, and Vice.  Extracurricular topics included wrestling actors, camera’s, and politics.  To tell you the truth they mostly kept on topic throughout each review.  Matt even reigned in Mike a couple of times if you can believe it! We are going to try to keep our show notes short and sweet so you can spend your time listen to our pod and not reading about it.  To sum it all up quickly go see Bumblebee and Vice.  Skip Welcome to Marwen unless you are really bored and want to see Steve Carell give one of his best performances ever.  Here go our ratings if you want to skip actual podcast.  Bumblebee, Matt likes it a ton but he is a giant nerd who grew up loving Transformers.  He gives it 4 out of 5 Reels.  Mike really enjoyed it but like always is harsh with his ratings, he gives Bumblebee 3.5 out of 5 Reels.  N

  • Episode #75: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

    01/01/2019 Duración: 48min

Welcome to 2019 everyone!  Today your insane host’s Mysterious Mike and Matt review a movie everyone in the world has probably seen but we are reviewing it anyways, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.  Matt has a full-on nerd melt down so here’s your warning.  It is not as bad as when we review a Star Wars movie, but it is pretty dang close.  Topics today also include snow, IMAX, the Universal Monsters, and finally our podcast goals for 2019. The guys agree Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a ground-breaking film and really should be seen by everyone.  It is like watching a comic book come to life on the big screen.  The animation is out of this world, the voice acting is incredible, and the story is just a whole lot of fun to say the least.  Matt loved this movie.  There were very very minor issues with it in his eyes just enough to drop it down a little bit from a perfect score.  He awards Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse a 4.5 out of 5 Reels.  Mike also loved this film but not as much as Matt.  He is q

  • Episode #74: Legacy - Die Hard

    25/12/2018 Duración: 37min

Merry Christmas everyone!!!!  We hope you opened lots of presents this morning and got everything you ever wanted.  Your hosts Matt and Mysterious Mike sure as hell didn’t.  Back on topic today in honor of Christmas we review one of Mike’s favorite Christmas movies of all time, Die Hard.  The guys talk about their first R rated movies, the hot mess that is Skyscraper, and their family Christmas get together's.  Grab a cool glass of eggnog and enjoy our review of Die Hard! Die Hard is one of the many great 1980’s action films in cinematic history.  The action is fantastic, the sets look incredible, and Bruce Willis is the every-man action hero guys want to be and women want to be with.  I think this goes without saying but Mysterious Mike loves this movie with all his heart.  He awards it his second perfect score in RFN history with 5 out of 5 Reels.  Matt really likes Die Hard a lot too but re-watching it definitely does not stand the test of time as well as it should.  He gives Die Hard a very good rating o

  • Episode #73: Mortal Engines

    20/12/2018 Duración: 32min

Merry almost Christmas everyone!  Today we have a review of a movie you should never see, Mortal Engines.  The guys don’t mess around and just get right into it with this review, this is a bad movie.  Topics today included the Mars TV show, Steve Carell, and Mike taking notes again. Mortal Engines is just a terrible movie.  The only redeeming part is the visual effects and the first 30 minutes that actually has a predator city chasing down another city.  Seriously that’s it in a movie based on predator cities one damn chase scene!  There is no character development at all.  The script poorly written, it comes off as a third movie in a trilogy when it’s the start of a new franchise?  Mortal Engines also rips off so many sci-fi and fantasy films including Star Wars that we lost count.  Mike flat out blasted this movie.  He really tore it apart more than usual.  He graciously gives Mortal Engines ½ a Reel out of 5.  Matt was very disappointed by this film.  He had very high hopes for it because it appears to be

  • Episode #72: The Mule (2018)

    18/12/2018 Duración: 39min

Morning everyone and welcome to another episode of the Reel Film Nerds podcast!  Winter Movie-pocalypse 2018 is upon us and your hosts start it out with Clint Eastwood’s latest masterwork The Mule (2018).  Mysterious Mike and Mean Matt do get off topic a bit in this pod, but it is hard to talk about Clint Eastwood and not about Westerns.  Topics today include That’s What She Said, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and Deadwood. The Mule (2018) is another stellar film from one of our acting and directing greats.  The casting is spot on, the story is incredible, and Clint Eastwood’s performance is one for the books.  Mike loved The Mule (2018) and thinks everyone should watch it but seeing it in the theater is not a must.  Matt agrees it was an incredible film, but he compares it to some of Eastwood’s other great films and feels it falls a tiny bit short of them.  They both award The Mule (2018) with 4 out of 5 Reels.              This Thursday the guys continue Winter Movie-pocalypse 2018 with another new podcast r

  • Episode #71: Legacy - Fred Claus

    13/12/2018 Duración: 44min

Welcome fellow movie lovers to another exciting installment of the Real Film Nerds Podcast.  I am not going to beat around the bush on this one.  We started to talk about our latest film Fred Claus, but it quickly turned into a discussion about Kevin Spacey and if we should be watching the films he stars in.  It is a fascinating discussion about art and film that is worth listening too.  Fred Claus just took a back seat for a while, a long while.  The guys also discuss how many movies a year does it take to call yourself a reviewer, its not as many as you would guess.  Fred Claus is basically the Christmas movie Matt would make but without the happy ending.  This movie can be very dark and funny at the same time.  The cast is fantastic and the acting is pretty solid too.  Mike does not hate Fred Claus but it is nothing special to him either.  He gives it 3 out of 5 Reels.  Matt likes the film quite a bit especially the story.  He gives Fred Claus 4 out of 5 Reels. Movie-pocalypse starts this Friday!  The gu

  • Episode #70: Legacy - Unsane

    11/12/2018 Duración: 29min

Hello there and welcome another new RFN podcast.  We can’t quit you!  Today our hosts review a film from earlier this year that was not in the theaters long, Unsane.  Today’s review was requested from one of our faithful listeners, Patrick!  Thanks, Pat, for your support and keep listening and requesting.  Mysterious Mike and Matt stay on point for once with this movie.  Extracurricular topics include iPhones, The Girl in the Spider’s Web book and movie, and the importance of story in a film. Unsane is a phycological thriller with great acting, an amazing story, and believe it or not the film was shot on a damn iPhone!  This one never lets up and constantly has you questioning who is the sane and who is not until the very end of the movie.  Matt really enjoyed this film but had a few little complaints here and there but nothing major.  He gives it 3.5 out of 5 Reels.  Mike too really enjoyed this film but is almost always harsher than Matt when it comes to his ratings.  He gives Unsane 3 Reels out of 5.  Bas

  • Episode #69: Legacy - Hackers

    06/12/2018 Duración: 37min

Wow do we have a special podcast for you today, well it’s special to Mysterious Mike and Amazing Matt.  Today your two hosts discuss a film that basically changed their lives, Hackers.  This film helped fuel them to the careers they now have and their deep passions for technology.  The gents do talk about the movie but not as much as they should have.  The talk mainly focuses on how Hackers helped influence Mike’s decision to go into computer programming, public pay phones, and online gaming over dial up, yes you read that right youngsters dial up online gaming! Hackers is an amazing movie, Matt and Mike are biased as hell though.  When you watch it today with all our technological advances it comes off extremely cheesy.  It’s a 90’s movie through and through from the rollerblades, to the EDM soundtrack, to the chain wallets.  If you grew up in the 90’s like your hosts did this movie will take you back there. Just a friendly reminder that your hosts are super biased in favor of this film, they love it to dea

  • Episode #68: Ralph Breaks the Internet

    04/12/2018 Duración: 41min

Howdy friends and welcome back to another amazing movie review by your two blabbermouths Mysterious Mike and Annoying Matt.  Today your hosts discuss Disney’s latest animated feature Ralph Breaks the Internet.  Topics this episode include Matt being a loner, relationship sacrifices, Star Wars, and the millions of movies coming to theaters in December. Ralph Breaks the Internet is a very fun entertaining movie that is probably not the best for kids.  There are tons of jokes and internet references that might be over most kids’ heads.  The animation is stellar as always and the voice acting is just as good.  There were some parts of the story that could have been left out though.  They were just not needed and made the film longer than it needed to be.  Matt enjoyed Ralph Breaks the Internet but felt it was just average.  There were some amazing parts but overall this movie was nothing special to him.  He gives it 3 out of 5 Reels.  Mike also enjoyed the film but thought it could have been better too.  He love

  • Episode #67: Widows

    29/11/2018 Duración: 32min

Namaste everybody and welcome to your second RFN pod of the week!  Today your hosts review Widows a slow burn Chicago based heist movie from director Steve McQueen starring Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, and Elizabeth Debicki.  Mike does his best to keep Matt on topic and pretty much succeeds.  Topics this episode go like this Matt hates Christmas, Mike is Matt’s brother at least in spirit, the trailer and marketing screwed this movie, and Mike’s MCU tie-in streak continues!!! Widows is a long drawn out movie that needs to spend a bit more time in the editing bay.  The character development is great and maybe even over done.  How much development do we really need on so many side characters?  The acting was incredible especially from the three main actresses.  Mike really enjoyed Widows and thinks it is worth the trip to the theater.  He awards it 3 out of 5 Reels.  Matt was not a huge fan of the film.  He thought it was boring especially the first two acts.  He loved the acting and the story as whole but

  • Episode #66: Green Book

    27/11/2018 Duración: 32min

Welcome back kids for an amazing new episode!  Today your hosts Mysterious Mike and Matt chat about a probable movie of the year, Green Book starring Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen.  The guys really love this movie and cannot emphasize it enough.  It really is a must see film.  The hosts stay on topic most of the time, Matt talks about what the green book historically is and he has a neat little surprise for Mike and you, our listeners. Green Book is just an amazing feel good film.  If it does not get nominated for a dozen Academy Awards we would be shocked.  It is a true story co-written by the son of one of the main characters.  This film does take place during a very dark time in the US’ history but it is a story that needs to be told.  The main reason history is taught throughout school is to learn from its mistakes and try not to make them again.  The acting is incredible, the story is fantastic, and the sets are beautiful.  This movie is the complete package and Mike and Matt agree they both give t

  • Episode #65: Tributary - Outlaw King

    22/11/2018 Duración: 40min

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  We hope you are out catching a movie today.  Nothing better to do on a holiday then spend it with friends and family at the movie theater.  Today your hosts discuss a film that is not in a movie theater and you can watch it right now on Netflix the kinda sorta sequel to Braveheart titled Outlaw King.  Matt apologizes way ahead of time, but he really gets off topic bad talking about tablets and watching movies on airplanes.  Mysterious Mike joined in forgetting to stop him being off topic.  If you are interested in tech and tablets listen, if not feel free to fast forward. Outlaw King is an amazing film with great cinematography and incredible makeup!  The stunts and gore are so good that some scenes will haunt you well after you finish watching the film.  The acting is superb especially from Chris Pine and new comer Rebecca Robin.  The sets wow they are incredible!  Mike really loved this film he thinks everyone should go watch it except the little ones.  It is a bit much for th

  • Episode #64: Overlord

    20/11/2018 Duración: 39min

Happy Tuesday everyone!  Don’t fret it is a great Tuesday because 1.) RFN has an awesome new pod out and 2.) It is a short week thanks to national football and turkey day!!!  Today the boys chat about a zombie Nazi horror World War II movie that should have come out before Halloween, Overlord.  Conversation includes Wolfenstein 3D, other WW2 movies that are actually good, zombies or lack thereof, and the incredible thought-provoking comic book Über published by Avatar Press. Overlord starts out really strong with some amazing WW2 C-47 and paratrooper scenes quickly falling apart afterwards.  The makeup is incredible, the acting is lackluster well Matt thinks so, and the story is just plain awful.  This film is clearly a rip-off of the hugely successful Wolfenstein video game franchise but fails to be as fun or as great of a story.  There are also a ton of WW2 movie stereotypes especially the characters.  It is weird having to write WW2 stereotypes, but they are quickly starting to develop in the entertainmen

  • Episode #63: Bohemian Rhapsody

    15/11/2018 Duración: 50min

Welcome, welcome, welcome to another installment of the Reel Film Nerds podcast!  Well Matt did it, he braved the Appalachian Mountains to hunt down Mysterious Mike and record a new pod.  Today the boys talk about an incredible biopic on Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody.  Can you believe it the RFN podcast made a top 40 list of the best movie podcasts on the planet?  We are at the 40th spot on the list but we made it!  You can check it out on the Feedspot blog along with all the other winners.  We are in some national company if you can believe it, we can’t.  Topics today include Mike’s wedding to Maniacal Mags, going to concerts, time travel, and our sister podcasts Rogues Radio, Code 3 Podcast, The Blue Milk Podcast, and The Mile High Show. Bohemian Rhapsody is an amazing film peering into the life and formation of the band Queen focusing on their lead singer Freddie Mercury.  The story is great but it leaves something to be desired.  There just was not enough of Mercury’s back story or enough on the other band me

  • Episode #62: Legacy - Last Flag Flying

    13/11/2018 Duración: 28min

Hi everyone and welcome back!  We have been on a little bit of a break the past week, but we return to you today with a vengeance!  Ok well Matt returns with a vengeance, Mysterious Mike is M.I.A. after his recent nuptials.  I am guessing he is doing this thing called a honeymoon?  Single guys like Matt will never know what that is.  Back on topic, today Matt talks about Last Flag Flying an Amazon Studio’s original starring Bryan Cranston, Laurence Fishburne, and Steve Carell. Last Flag Flying is a very serious film that discusses a difficult but important topic.  It does get a little political here and there but how can you not when discussing the death of a young soldier?  The acting is incredible, the sets are great, but the story is what really sets this one apart.  It is nice having some well-timed and appropriate humor that helps with the very serious subject matter.  Matt really enjoyed Last Flag Flying and gives it 3.5 out of 5 Reels.     Thank you liking, subscribing, and supporting our little pod.
