With industrial heat and steam generation accounting for around 15% of global greenhouse gas emissions, renewable power-to-heat solutions and thermal energy storage are essential for companies looking to decarbonize their operations. What are the main challenges? And what is the potential of current renewable heat technologies? To answer these questions I’m joined by Alex Robertson, the CEO of Norwegian company EnergyNest.

In 2023, Swedish mining company LKAB announced the discovery of the largest known deposit of rare earth elements (REEs) in Europe. Located in Kiruna, the iron ore deposit contains high levels of phosphorus and rare earth oxides. To talk about the discovery, how the company plans to extract the minerals and the need for more domestic European production, I’m joined by Darren Wilson, CEO of LKAB Minerals.

The European Commission's support, last month, for 47 strategic projects to boost domestic capacity in strategic raw materials, puts mining at the forefront of EU policy. Europe must mine more, faster and responsibly. With the EU importing more than 95% of its natural gas, home-grown alternatives are more than welcome. Such as biogases, which currently represents 7% of natural gas consumption. So, there’s plenty of room for improvement. But how? How can the EU produce more renewable gas? To answer this question I’m joined by Harmen Dekker, CEO of the European Biogas Association.
