Do you have what it takes to be a digital nomad? We discuss the digital nomad experience with the following intrepid travellers: Juleen Gentles, who is from Jamaica, but spoke with us from Ghana; Marsiya Issah who is from Ghana, but has been living in Barbados; and Andres Phillips, who is from Barbados, but recently ended a 10-month stint in Colombia and Mexico. During the episode, Andres, Juleen and Marsiya share their journey to becoming digital nomads and some of their experiences on the ground, especially with respect to internet access, and language. The instances of online abuse and harassment are growing worldwide, but remain underreported and with very little support for victims, particularly in the Caribbean region. The internet is a channel through which considerable opportunities can be leveraged, but it can be argued that it is still underdeveloped in the Caribbean region. The Caribbean region is awash with art and artists. Sadly, most them have little or no visibility beyond their home country, and struggle to make a living solely from their art. Sade Barrow-Browne is the Founder of FineArt.gy, an online art gallery that is showcasing the work of Guyana’s artists and creatives. Over the past several years, Caribbean governments have been engaged in public sector transformation programmes and initiatives to better leverage ICT. However, in many instances, the effort seems open-ended with few concrete outcomes, and the speed of change appears to lag behind that of the society. An exception appears to be the digital transformation programme of the Government the Bahamas, which has been realising a number of successes and milestone achievements.
