  • I speak to Author Jeremy Arnold on his book The Essentials Vol. 2 : 52 More Must-See Movies and Why They Matter..We Talk Freaks, Cads and Andy Griffith as a demagogue..Lots of fun

    18/01/2021 Duración: 01h06min

I had a wonderful time talking about some of the movies Jeremy had chosen for his Essentials Volume 2.  Sometimes you may wonder, "Why Oh Why, is this an essential"..Jeremy lets you know. This is from The TCM library but you can get it anywhere books are sold. Jeremy had already done Volume 1. The movies are great. These are movies that my comfort guy Robert Osborne chose, along with a coterie of guests hosts, Drew Barrymore, Alec Baldwin and Sally Field. After the death of Robert, Ben Mankiewicz still hosts the essentials today every Saturday night at 8 PM on TCM.  took over. Not only do we get Jeremy's thoughts we get snippets of Roberts and all the hosts. Its a fun read and there are a bunch of movies to check out.  I highly recommend book. Lots of great flicks to check out..    Thanks a zillion to Jeremy, he was fun and so  knowledgable. He was patient with my digressions (who me?)  You can find his books https://www.amazon.com/Jeremy-Arnold/e/B07HFK5386?ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_1&qid=1610993155&

Many very big stars came up to Harvey such as Burt Lancaster, Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward and so many others telling Harvey how great he was and that they watched every Saturday night and they could never do what he does. Chris was with his dad through all that. Sad story about Chris meeting Rock Hudson on the set of Dynasty.. Chris has overcome so much. He is a husband and dad and he made his father so proud. Very good listen..THe book is a great read. Chris and I are now pals..He is a true sweetie pie. WE give a shout out to our friend Stone Wallace. All his friends miss him.. • Part 2 I talk to authorJeremy Arnold on his book Christmas In The Movies 30 Classics To Celebrate The Season

    22/12/2020 Duración: 37min

Jeremy wrote this book for the TCM collection. He is also author of The Essentials 1 and The Essentials Part 2. Hopefully he will be back in the New Year and we can discuss his choices. Jeremy chose a variety of Christmas movies. Of course the old classics, he also chose some of the more modern Christmas movies. There are lots of tidbits. I enjoyed it thoroughly. He was a lot of fun and he knows his Christmas flicks. We both have the same fave A Christmas Carol, there could be couple you have never heard of so check on TCM or You tube. I have a few that I love that didn't make the book. One I think you should check out is Christmas Holiday. It is on you tube (so far). Jeremy thought it wasn't really a Christmas movie, but it was during Christmas, there were flashbacks, but ultimately about letting go and being free culminating on Christmas night.. Deanna Durbin was great in her only dramatic role, and Gene Kelly was a charming swine. All of Jeremy's choices are great so its a great read and check out those m

  • I talked to Lara Parker, who played the amazing Angelique in Dark Shadows. We talk the show, her career and my used to be liked a lot horror film. The real scary stuff was behind the scenes.

    14/12/2020 Duración: 01h10min

I had a great time talking to Lara, she was so forthcoming and a lot of fun. I want to thank my pal David Selby for asking her to come on the show. We talk Dark Shadows, her feminist witch, then vampire. She talks about biting Johnny Carson and we discussed the horror film she starred in, Race With The Devil, 1975. When I first moved TO NYC it was on Channel 11 and scared me big time. The behind the scenes scoop she gave me was the real horror.. You will be very mad, not at Lara but the production team. It was an informative and interesting show.  Thanks so much to Lara for coming on the show. She was fabulous.   Mostly thanks to you, the listeners.. You are the best!! Gene wrote a wonderful memoir and she did not hold back. Mental illness was not to be talked about. Gene did and I'm sure she helped many during their own battles. • I talk to my friend John DiLeo about How classic Hollywood portrayed Heaven and Hell

    03/12/2020 Duración: 01h02min

John and I discuss how the afterlife, or near afterlife was depicted in Classic Hollywood. Lots of Angels, from Cary Grant to Clarence the lovable guy from It's a wonderful life. I ask the question is there food in heaven?? John does not want to just float on a cloud and play the Harp. WE touch on reincarnation too.  One I forgot to mention is The Twilight Zone Episode A Man And His Dog. Heaven seems like it would be lots of fun. Its a fab episode and The Old Mans Dog actually saves him from taking the wrong road to Hell. The St Peter imposter said dogs were not allowed in Heaven. The dog barked near the entrance and at the man. The Old Man says I won't go to Heaven if you don't take my dog so he keeps on walking. They come across the real entrance to Heaven where his loyal dog is happily joining his guy in the heavenly place.. I love this episode. WE don't see heaven, but it sounds like fun.  Thanks so much to John for being a fab guest once again. You can find all Johns books here. https://www.amazon.com

  • Part 2 I talk to Author Marshall Terrill about his fab book, Steve McQueen…In His Own Words..Steve was the coolest dude

    29/11/2020 Duración: 54min

This was a fun podcast for me, as all are actually. I love Steve McQueen and its truly in his words. Hundreds of quotes with never before seen photos of the cool dude Steve. Marshall has written a couple books on Steve but this gets you right into Steve's head. His rough childhood, becoming an actor, loving riding his motorcycles and racing. He was a self admitted chauvinist and we get a peak into his three marriages. WE also see Steve in his final battle against cancer, after he was told nothing could be done, he went to Mexico to try the controversial treatment of laetrile. Steve died in a little filthy looking room in Mexico seventeen hours after a massive surgery. It is an emotional look at Steve. He was no saint. He was a living breathing cool cat and remains an  iconic dude today.. Join us on a journey into Steves life in his own words.  Thanks so much to Marshall. He was fab and so easy to talk to. I love the book.    You can see Marshall and all his other books on https://www.daltonwatson.com/Auth

I talk to my friend Alexis Hunter about her book Joi Lansing..A Body To Die For..A Love Story.  Its the story of Alex's love of her life who she met when she was 22. Joi was a sex symbol, a glamour puss deluxe, singer and comedic actress. Joy was in her early forties and the time was 1970's. Blonde bombshells were out and the groovy look was in. Alex takes us through their friendship that turned into love. Joi's battle with cancer and a warning to beware what you have put into your body. In Joi's case silicone injected directly into her breasts. Read, read ,read about anything you may be thinking about using. The book is touching, funny at times, and of course sad. • I speak to author Roy Widing about Bogies other Baby, Mayo Methot...she was so much more than Sluggy...

    07/11/2020 Duración: 56min

I talk to Roy Widing about his book..Sluggy: Bogies Other Baby.. Mayo Methot-Star Of Stage, Screen And Wife Of Humphrey Bogart. I loved Roy's book because I am a fan of Mayo's. A lot of people have not seen her work but if you can catch Virtue, it was on YouTube or the movie where she and Bogie fell in love Marked Women, 1937 you will see her talent and vulnerability shine through. Mayo was Bogarts third wife, the wife he left for Lauren Bacall. She gets a bad wrap because she drank a lot, as did Humphrey. They were known as The Battling Bogarts. He gave her the nickname Sluggy. He also named his boat after her...Sluggy. They were a love match. He liked, loved and admired her. Mayo was bright, talented and made him laugh. The alcohol got the best of her. She pretty much stopped working when she married Bogart. He was not the huge star he became when they married, but became one during the marriage. Find out the truth behind their marriage. Bogart was no abused husband to be sure. He was an equal participant.
