Passage: 1 Thessalonians 1:3. In the last instalment of our Church Life series, we're diving into the last of the three of Paul's remembrances of the Thessalonian Church. We too long to be people who endure and who are strangely and inexplicably marked by hope. 

Passage: 1 Thessalonians 1:3. What does love have to do with sacrifice? How does this mark the Church? Should we have to do things we don't want to? Note: we apologize the recording was started late and is missing the introduction and first main idea. 

Passage: 1 Thessalonians 1:1-3. Work. Faith. Both words to stress us out. Unless maybe somehow we are called to be work people and faith people. And maybe, just maybe this is all a work that we trust God to do. 

Passage: 1 Thessalonians 1:1-3. Kickoff Sunday means church stuff. Maybe a little guilt and program pushing. But what are we doing exactly? Is our task vague and impossible? Paul's gratitude is maybe what we're looking for. A Church called to work by faith, labour from love and endure in hope. 

Passage: Proverbs 28:4. There is a joy and richness to choosing a life of tender hearted connection to Jesus and others. This kind of new creation life will bear fruit in all sorts of unexpected ways. 

Passage: various Proverbs. Most of us don't love discipline. It usually brings up a bunch of negative associations. And yet, wisdom tells us this is something we should learn to love. How does discipline find its way into our personal, internal and parenting lives? 

Passage: Proverbs 9. Solomon lays out two life partner options for us. Wisdom and Folly. Both have a certain appeal for different reasons, but which will you choose? And how will this change your life? 

Passage: Proverbs 6:20-35. Don't commit adultery; it will burn you. Good wisdom for life but does it apply to more of us than we realize? How are we all struggling with adultery and how does Jesus help? 

Passage: Proverbs 12:10. What a weird proverb about taking care of your animals... unless it means something bigger. We are being challenged that the righteous are kind in all areas of life, and this challenge calls us again to Christ. 

Passage: Proverbs 27:5-6. Most of us don't take correction well. We don't give feedback or receive it without serious reservations. But wisdom tells us this is the way we grow and we need to learn to value it. 

Passage: 1 Samuel 17. We are challenged by David's faithfulness to where God has placed him. We are challenged to trust a God who is faithful. Despite our circumstances and the various perspectives we might bring, God is at work, multiplying His glory through willing vessels. 

Passage: Luke 24:33-53. As we close our exploration of Luke's account, we see that as we respond to risen Jesus, we are transformed into worshipful witnesses. There are things we don't know, things we think we know, and there is Jesus. So kind and gentle to lead us to the Father. 

Passage: Luke 23:50-24:12. People struggle to believe Jesus died and rose again. And this makes sense because it is the most outrageous claim of the life of Jesus. If it's a hoax, everything in Christianity falls apart. But if true, utterly transforms our world forever! Come and believe!

Passage: Luke 22:62-23:49. The cross is a necklace ornament but also a form of Roman capital punishment. Why does it matter? Why is it important? Why is it so beautiful to us? We follow the last hours of Jesus to death in discovery of a life-changing reality. 

Passage: Luke 22:31-62. We all need a Saviour. If we're honest, we'll admit we've made a mess of things. Our lives, our relationships and the world. We need someone to rescue us from the pit we're in. A good and compassionate Saviour who can rescue us and make everything new. Jesus is the Saviour we need.  

Passage: Luke 22:24-30. We all wrestle with the need or desire to be recognized. We feel we deserve it. It's our right. But how do we live in light of the challenge of Jesus to embrace greatness through humility. 

Passage: Luke 22:1-23. Judas is betraying Jesus and Jesus is giving communion. A powerful and enduring sacrament reminding us of our surrender to His will and way. 

Passage: Luke 21:4-37. We grapple with the things Jesus said, and the things we believe about His return. What do we need to know? How do we prepare? What should we be doing? 

Passage: Luke 20:27-21:4. We hide in lots of ways. In words and religion and of course, just being disconnected. The invitation of Jesus is to bring our whole hearts to this better Saviour. 

Passage: Luke 20:19-26. The wrestle of how to live in this world and not of it, isn't a new one. We listen to Jesus throw down the gauntlet to those trying to trap him. And we are challenged to understand how we respond to His call to give God what belongs to Him... everything.
