Guest teacher Jackie Glass takes us outside the book of Acts to look at God's strategy for movement. All throughout scripture, the method to God's plan for our movement is: first prepare... then move. This is evident in the life of Joshua, so let's turn back the pages and dive in.

So, how do we function as sent people when resistance to the name of Jesus occurs? How do we respond when following Jesus begins to cost us something - and it will - when we encounter resistance, fear, pain, as we find and follow Christ and help others do the same? We think Acts 4:23-31 has the answer. The Apostles Peter and John are shaken, and yet this produces an emotion that may surprise you.

We’re going to leave Acts for just a moment and travel back hundreds of years before the book of Acts, and the unleashing of the Holy Spirit, to the book of Joel. Why? Well, this minor prophet shared a mega promise for ALL people. And by "all people" we mean you. The question is, are you benching your unfair advantage?

The book of Acts can raise a LOT of really great questions; but perhaps the biggest one is: does God heal today? Well, through two observations in Acts 3:1-10 and a little help from the Alpha Film Series, we're confident there is a solid answer for all of us.

Acts 2:44-45 is where we learn how the early church, having everything in common, had everything to do with their singular mission... The Great Commission. (A.K.A. Helping People Find & Follow Christ!) There was no question as to why they existed and where they were going. This vision unleashed a conspiracy of kindness and a collusion of compassion that, even today, sets the stage for impact and revival.

On the day of Pentecost, newly filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter took the mic and explained to the crowd exactly what they were witnessing. His message pointed them to Jesus, "THIS JESUS", whom they had just crucified. And this message is still alive today! This is a movement message and it's got a movement plan, and now you and I will have lives that demand an explanation because His power is at work. Don't drop the mic just yet!

We pick up our Unleashed series today in Acts 2 on the day of Pentecost. To set the stage, Jesus has ASCENDED to heaven to take His place at the right hand of the Father and now, like He promised, the Spirit will DESCEND to empower and cloth His people with what He himself was empowered and clothed with. There is a struggle, and the armor of God isn't complete until you take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Let's finish this!

The mind. This is where the fiercest battles are fought and won, and we need protection. Are you taking the helmet of salvation into the fight?

The intensity and urgency of the battle isn't decreasing; it's increasing. Flaming arrows have been released in your direction because you're a threat to the enemy. So we take up the shield of faith. It's go time.

Shoes and armor may not seem like they go together, but for the follower of Jesus, they are crucial. Get ready to lace up the gospel of peace!
