  • Parables: The Good Samaritan

    24/01/2022 Duración: 45min

Our series through some of the parables Jesus gave continues with a look at the Parable of the Good Samaritan. Sermon Notes: P’SHAT – Surface. The truth that is found on a P’shat level can be incredibly profound and profoundly applied. REMEZ – Hints. The rabbi has hidden a special treasure that is unlocked with a familiarity of the Old Testament text. DRASH – Inquire or Seek. Drash is the idea of truth hidden in story. Once a student has found the hint in the Old Testament text, they are given tools that are going to help them unlock and understand the deeper meanings of the rabbi’s teaching. It should be noted here that the Remez in a teaching is always up for debate. SOD – Secret or Mystery. Sod is connected to mystery and cannot be learned or taught. Sod is a supernatural gift from God (or we might even say the Holy Spirit). An example of this is Peter’s great confession (Matthew 16) where Jesus remarks that “man has not revealed this to you, but only my Father who is in Heaven.” Luke 10:25-37 Deuteron

  • Parables: Prayerables

    17/01/2022 Duración: 38min

Logan takes us through two parables dealing with prayer: The Parable of the Friend at Midnight and The Parable of the Persistent Widow. Sermon Notes: Kal Va'Chomer – “how much more” Luke 11:5-13 Luke 18:1-8 Implications: You should have fearless audacity in how you come to God in prayer. You can expect God to answer your prayers. Repeated prayer separates want from need. God gives good gifts. Discipleship Conversation Starters: Do you expect God to give you crappy gifts? Are you really willing to go to God with your wants/needs? Where do you need God to show up in your life right now? Where is God telling you “no” right now? What gets in the way of you praying?
