Ep 146: Four Mistakes I Don't Regret
07/12/2021 Duración: 50minI’m sharing four mistakes I don’t regret in my: Education Marriage Business & Body As we come to the end of another calendar year, I’m (as always) nostalgic and reflective. Here are some of the biggest choices in my life that were the “wrong” choices, but I don’t regret them. (Okay, one of them I do regret.) At the end of the episode, we hear listener voices chiming in with some of their biggest life lessons over the last few years. (Listener voices are always my favorite part of the episode.) Ep 145: Time Anxiety
30/11/2021 Duración: 43minHave you ever had the thoughts: I don’t have enough time Time is passing me by I’m wasting too much time If this is something that really affects your mood, your schedule, and you're full of frazzle, overwhelm, or a continuing existential crisis, then you may have Time Anxiety. (Not an official thing - just a name I gave to something that affects me regularly.) In this episode, I’m sharing about my own Time Anxiety and how it hurts my productivity and my parenting. I’m also talking about how to notice ALL the messages we get in our culture about TIME, and why those messages are giving us constant low-level hums of anxiety. I’m also sharing a few concrete methods I use to combat Time Anxiety. I hope you find this episode helpful or at the very least like you’re not the only one obsessed with the passage and managing of time. FULL SHOW NOTES HERE Sponsors: Ritual vitamins. Ep 143: Planning and Paper Planners (with Sarah Hart-Unger)
16/11/2021 Duración: 01h11minWe're in the home stretch of 2021 and plans for 2022 are starting to take shape. So I am so excited to welcome Sarah Hart-Unger to the show to talk about planning (rituals, philosophies, and more) and planning tools (paper planners, apps, and books). Planning and productivity is a side hobby of mine, but Sarah Hart-Unger is much more of an expert. She's a doctor, a mom, a blogger, and has not one but TWO podcasts on these topics. You can find her blogging daily at TheShuBox.com and on her podcast Best Laid Plans (all about planning tools) and as a cohost with Laura Vanderkam on Best of Both Worlds (all about time management and work/life balance). We had a great conversation about ALL of these things, which left me excited for the year ahead in both work and family life. Ep 142: The Tremaine Fish Tank (with Nic Tiemens from Infinity Aquariums)
09/11/2021 Duración: 01h08minWell this episode is a bit of a departure. One of the strangest things about our life in Hollywood (and there are many, many strange things) is our enormous fish tank. Every time I share a little bit about our fish tank on social media, I get flooded with questions that I mostly can't answer. So I finally recorded a conversation with someone who could! Nic Tiemens is the co-founder of Infinity Aquariums and not only does he take care of the Tremaine Tank for us every week, he has installed and maintained tanks for some of the biggest celebrities and most beautiful homes in the world. In this episode, Nic shares how he stumbled into this line of work, why you shouldn't ever get a fish tank on a whim, and the insane new project he's been working on for two years in Bel Air. My husband Jeff also joins us for part of the conversation, because he's the real reason we have a 1,500 gallon fish tank in our dining room. #OneDayHH 2021 is November 9th!
05/11/2021 Duración: 12minMy annual social media challenge #OneDayHH will take place on Tuesday, November 9th 2021. This short, informative episode will explain a little more about what #OneDayHH is, how it works, and why it's so meaningful. #OneDayHH stands for One Day Hour by Hour, and that's what we do: document ONE DAY in our life, hour by hour. Sharing the things that don't usually get shared, like routines and spaces and outfits and all that other minutia. We do it because it's fun, and that's reason enough. But this minisode might give you a little more inspiration to jump in. Follow me on IG @laura.tremaine to see MY day. Ep 141: 6 Classic Novels You Should Read (with guest Colleen Powell)
02/11/2021 Duración: 01h19minThis episode is for anyone who misses being a student. I have a running list of classic novels that I want to re-read as an adult or read for the first time because I missed them in high school English class. And so once a year or so, I force myself to pick up those novels that end up on All Time Best lists like this one. Or this one. Or even this one. If you have the same literary burden, this episode is meant to help you choose a classic that won't be a total bore. I'm joined by my friend and Patreon producer Colleen Powell, a former teacher and current audio editor outside of Chicago. Colleen helps me with the Secret Stuff Book Club, and this winter we're reading a few classic novels starting this November with Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. Join the Secret Stuff Book Club HERE. In our conversations, Colleen and I are sharing both the best contemporary books we've read lately AND the best classic novels we'd recommend to anyone. Ep 139: Ask Me Anything
19/10/2021 Duración: 01h20minWell this MONSTER of an episode is brought to you by my inability to pick and choose among the great questions I got for this session of Ask Me Anything. I'm sharing stuff about our new house, reading nonfiction, kids & tech, purposeful "no's", how I've changed, and vulnerability hangovers. (I might have a vulnerability hangover after this episode!) Thank you to all who sent in such question questions - I'm sorry I couldn't get to all of them. I let it all hang out here, but for some of the questions that are even MORE personal, I'll be answering those over at Secret Stuff later this week. Ep 131: Teaching people to grieve with me (A conversation with Amy Ortloff)
24/08/2021 Duración: 01h06minContent warning: Child loss and suicide This episode is one of the most tender and important I’ve ever shared on this show, and I am just so deeply grateful to Amy Ortloff for having this conversation with me and letting me make it public. In 2017, Amy Ortloff lost her middle child Ryan to suicide. Ryan was just 17 years old. Less than a week after his death, Amy took to her personal Facebook page and starting sharing every single day. She began by sharing stories about Ryan, family memories and examples of the kind of kid he was. She didn't want her child to be forgotten. As the weeks went by, deep in grief, Amy also started sharing her own experiences of this devastating time she was living through. She shared what she was learning in therapy, she set and shared her personal boundaries for interaction for those in her small town Oklahoma community. Amy's sharing was raw and vulnerable. It was heartbreaking and powerful. I made a point to read her posts every day that first year after Ryan. This episode
