You are the only one stopping you
04/07/2017 Duración: 17minIt's easy to blame others for our position in life. It may seem like the Universe is conspiring against us at time, like some force does not want us to succeed. The reality is that nothing is in your way. Life is hard. It certainly is. Bad stuff happens to people everyday. It's not what happens to us in life that holds us back, it's how we deal with it. You can have everything you want. You just need to get out of your own way. ---------------------------------------------------- To subscribe to the Growth and Execution newsletter, please visit growthandexecution.com. Designing a business
20/06/2017 Duración: 13minA lot of people in the entrepreneur / small business world take about passion and using passion for starting a business. Passion isn't everything. It's awesome fuel for the fire and I believe that you have to be passionate about either running a business or the product that your business is selling to be successful. Businesses can be designed instead of conjured up out of pure passionate inspiration. Markets and customers and clients exist and you can develop a design a business that will succeed in a specific market. Instead of using blind passion as a reason to start a business, think about mapping the business to a gap in the marketplace. ---------------------------------------------------- To subscribe to the Growth and Execution newsletter, please visit growthandexecution.com. Fighting the Resistance
15/06/2017 Duración: 11minNo matter what our creative work is, the Resistance sneaks up on us all and tries to sabotage our work. In this show, I talk about that unseen force that Pressfield calls the Resistance and how it's been kicking my butt lately. If you struggle to get work done, I recommend reading "The War of Art" by Pressfield. ---------------------------------------------------- To subscribe to the Growth and Execution newsletter, please visit growthandexecution.com. In Depth on My Business Strategy
13/06/2017 Duración: 21minThe strategy to build my business is not intuitive to most people. When I decided on my strategy of giving away everything I can for the next year or more it felt right in my gut. A quote I heard Gary Vaynerchuk said elegantly stated my business strategy, "You pitch to the winners or you pitch to the losers." Hearing that caused me to jump on this podcast and record this episode explaining my strategy. My entire strategy is about 3 things; - Giving - Setting up for the future - Selling to the winners ---------------------------------------------------- To subscribe to the Growth and Execution newsletter, please visit growthandexecution.com. The Importance of Iteration
08/06/2017 Duración: 10minWhenever try something new or extend beyond our comfort zone, the fear of failure creeps in. It stops many of us from extending beyond our comfort zone. We do not need to succumb to the fear of failure. Failure only really exists when you stop trying. The people who achieve, the people who build great things do not do all at once. The first idea is never the best idea. There is not one solution to solve every problem. It's all about the journey. Failure only matters when it causes you to give up. That is why iteration is so important. Continuing to try is everything. When building something or starting something new, continual iteration of ideas and processes and work overcomes failure. If you continue to try then it is impossible to fail. ---------------------------------------------------- To subscribe to the Growth and Execution newsletter, please visit growthandexecution.com. A Line in the Sand
06/06/2017 Duración: 14minBig dreams require big actions. They also require belief. Externalizing your dreams is one of the ways to get over the fear of believing in them. I realized after a client meeting that I had not externalized what I really wanted. I never said to anyone what my dream was. I've been working toward something that only I knew that I was. Not even my wife understood what I was really working toward. I also hadn't committed to a timeline. It's scary to actually put a date on something. The date that I will get what I'm working towards. In this episode, I commit to when I will quit my corporate job. It's a scary thing to do, but does it actually have to be scary. April 2, 2019, I will work entirely for myself. I'm going to hit that date. If don't, it doesn't actually matter. The only way I fail is I quit. If my actions do not map to my words. Then I've failed. ---------------------------------------------------- To subscribe to the Growth and Execution newsletter,

Your business has to solve a problem
30/05/2017 Duración: 11minI recorded this episode a few days after I had a particularly frustrating call with a potential client. I spent time thinking about why I was frustrated by it and what I can learn from it. My biggest takeaway, if you are not aligning with the client then end the sales call. Instead of ending the call I worked harder to try to convince them that their current strategy wasn't good enough.... and I tried for 1.5 hours. I ended up laying out a multiyear plan for them on the phone. The entire call they kept telling me they agreed with what I was saying but that they also just are not going to change. All of that after the call started with them telling me their current strategy isn't working and that they needed a new one. It was clear after the call that this was a client I wouldn't even enjoy working with, the wrong kind of client. I should have ended it early and I took it longer than was scheduled. At least I've learned some valuable lessons I won't make again. The crux of t

Determining the right approach for a client meeting
25/05/2017 Duración: 11minA few days before a quarterly review session with a client I contemplate the right approach to take for the meeting. Tone and focus matter and they change from client to client. Reading a client correctly for a first meeting really make a relationship and a successful meeting. People buy into their own ideas. It's my role to help clients get out of their own way and to realize what they need to do. Smart business owners know the right things to do to grow their businesses. Sometimes we all just need someone to help us be super clear on it, to talk it through. That's one way that consultants and coaches can provide value to a client. ---------------------------------------------------- Did something in this episode resonate with you? How much is too much?
23/05/2017 Duración: 11minIn this episode, I contemplate how often I should be recording this show. I determine that I should be releasing the 5 days a week yet I ended up deciding not to do this. To grow this show it would be better to release an episode every day. The reality is that growing this show isn't actually a main objective of mine. That made me realize after I recorded this episode that spending too much time on this show would take away in other areas that I didn't want to sacrifice in. Truthfully, releasing this episode made me cringe. It's really an episode that shouldn't be released since I commit to a schedule that I am actually not doing is a mistake from a content strategy. I did commit to this show being raw and really my personal journal. With that in mind, things change and I don't want to censor what I am releasing. Ultimately this one episode doesn't matter and that's why I forced myself to release it even though I didn't want to. ----------------------------------------

I'm no guru....
21/05/2017 Duración: 11minThis episode is a reminder that no matter what you are talented in that there is a business for it. "Who would pay for that?" Whatever THAT is....someone will pay for it. It's just a matter of finding the customer base and marketing to them correctly. Most people assume that what they know, others know. That what they are good, that others are good at it. It's simply not true. The culmination of our talents, experiences, and personalities make us individuals. We can all find those clients that are lacking what makes us special and from there a business can be born. You are special. I am special. We have something to offer. The key is to remember that always as it is why we are valuable. At the same time, we can never let it go to our heads. Our egos need to be big enough to help us succeed and small enough to not cause us to fail. ---------------------------------------------------- To subscribe to the Growth and Execution newsletter, please visit growthan

Momentum
21/05/2017 Duración: 11minResults never happen overnight. No matter what you are undertaking you need to keep at it before results show up. Sometimes it takes weeks and sometimes it takes years. This is the hard part of building something new or changing a habit or changing a lifestyle. We crave instant results yet we never get them. This is where belief is necessary. The key to building moment is continuing to try and believe the results will come. I've struggled with momentum and I need to create to get everything I want. I need to otherwise I will fail. ---------------------------------------------------- To subscribe to the Growth and Execution newsletter, please visit growthandexecution.com. 1 > 0
18/05/2017 Duración: 16minBusiness is hard. It really is. It's not the glamouraous cars and watches that you see on Instagram when you look at #entrepreneurship. It's a fucking grind. Unrealistic goals just create feelings of failure. You need to stretch to get what you want but if you stretch too far it can it can be self defeating. I don't care about making money today. So I guess I'm not building a business. I want to build equity, people equity. So my business strategy for 2017 is "1>0". The one is greater than zero philosphy is all about helping others, helping business owners accomplish what they want. It's not about sales or dollars today, it's about making an impact. It's remembering that this is a grind, and that success happens one step at time. It's remembering that there converting one business, one person today is worth more than stretching to cash out. When starting from nothing, anything is better than nothing. Relationship building and networking happens one person at

Just the beginning....
18/05/2017 Duración: 18minIt can be scary to dream big. It can be scary to desire things that you think are out of grasp. Things that the people around you don't have. I dream big. Always have. In this episode I talk about my big dream....what I want to accomplish...what I want for my life. When it comes to problems, the first step to solving it is admitting you have it. When it comes to accomplishing goals, the first step toward getting it is admitting you want it. Verbalizing to the world, to the universe what you want to accomplish is necessary to overcoming the fears and actually getting what you want in life. In this episode, I externalize what I want to accomplish so I can finally start working towards it. ----------------------------------- To subscribe to the Growth and Execution newsletter, please visit growthandexecution.com.
