The religious need the gospel - Audio
21/08/2023 Duración: 48minGod has a different view of sin than we do. After chapter 1, the religious, who have a tendency to be a little snobbish, would feel superior to those condemned by their actions, but in chapter 2, Paul says we’re all guilty. We are all without excuse and without escape, yet we condemn others for their sins, the same things we are doing. The world’s favorite scripture is “Judge not lest you be judged,” but this means we shouldn’t judge with a hypocritical heart. The Jews thought God owed them because they were better. God is long-suffering. He doesn’t approve of what we do but he has patience so that we might repent of our sin. The longer we don’t, the harder it becomes to do so. We can’t rest in our own righteousness. We’re just like those without the Lord, we just look different. We all need the blood of Jesus to cleanse us from our sins.

Hazards of half-hearted forgiveness - Audio
14/08/2023 Duración: 01h12sHalf-hearted forgiveness can result in unanticipated consequences. If there is only superficial forgiveness there often is incomplete repentance. As with David and his son Absalom, after Absalom killed his brother for violating his half-sister Tamar, David forgave Absalom but only partially, as he wouldn’t show his face. This fueled rebellion in Absalom’s heart which resulted in Absalom eventually usurping David’s power, at which time David had to flee. God’s forgiveness is completely adequate and a great deterrent against sin.

Disobedient to parents - Audio
06/08/2023 Duración: 01h08minPaul’s list of sins and attitudes contains the worst of the worst, and the fact that “disobedience to parents” is within this list shows where God’s heart is on the matter. In fact, it was considered so important that to disobey was worthy of death. Ephesians says to “honor your father and mother” and that this is the first commandment with a promise, “that your days may be long on the earth.” Throughout the Bible honor of parents is considered right and natural, with dishonoring a sign of the last days. This not only applies to the young ones, but the older children as well, and as the parents become elderly they should be respected and their counsel listened to. Rather than a bunch of rules, this points us to Jesus if we’re to obey and love as we should.

God's wrath - a settled response - Audio
31/07/2023 Duración: 58minThe standard progression of ungodliness: We know God; we don’t worship God; we exchange God for something/someone else; and finally God gives us over to a debased mind, which is the fearful consequence of deliberate atheism. This is the clearest example of a disordered affection where a vertical worship disorder translates to a horizontal disorder and a culture of decay. We have all fallen short in these areas and into a state of degeneracy. Romans goes on to list all kinds of immoral behavior.

Rome sweet Rome - Audio
29/05/2023 Duración: 53minAfter three months, Paul and his companions sailed from Malta and eventually landed at Puteoli, where they continued their journey to Rome. Along the way, Paul sought out and was sought by other believers, and they encouraged one another. Once in Rome he was chained to a guard, but didn't let that stop him from preaching the gospel to anyone and everyone. He even sent for Jews from each of the local synagogues to preach to them. Some received him; others did not. For two years he stayed in his own house and was allowed to freely preach the gospel without harassment and persecution, something he had never experienced. Rory noted that this is the end of the written book of Acts, but it really continues on to this day. We are a part of it and as Paul, need to be boldly and fearlessly preaching the gospel, whether in far off lands or in Prineville.

Paul on Malta - with nice natives - Audio
25/05/2023 Duración: 47minAfter the ship ran aground and was destroyed in the surf, all the people escaped to shore, and learned they were on the island of Malta. The natives were extremely hospitable and built warming fires for them, as well as providing for all their needs. As the fires were built, Paul helped to gather sticks for fuel. In the process of putting them on the fire, a viper attached itself to Paul's hand and was quickly shaken off into the fire. Nothing happened to Paul and the natives thought he was a god. The leader of the island, Publius, generously entertained them for three days, and when his father was ill, Paul prayed and the Lord healed him. As a result, many of Malta's sick came to Paul and were healed. Historically, many on the island became Christians and Malta is, today, a Christian nation. We must be careful that just because someone is "nice," as the Maltese were, that we don't shy from preaching the gospel. Niceness does not equal salvation.

An expecting mother's song - Audio
14/05/2023 Duración: 01h05minNothing comes close to the story of the virgin birth. We might tend to forget about Mary as a knee-jerk reaction to her veneration in Catholicism, but she is the mother of our Lord. The Angel Gabriel visited her and told her she’d give birth to Jesus through the Holy Spirit. She couldn’t comprehend this but Gabriel said that nothing was impossible with God. She believed and went to visit her cousin Elizabeth, who was with child herself (John the Baptist). Filled with the Holy Spirit, Elizabeth blessed Mary, who exalted the Lord and also recognized that she needed a Savior. Her words became known as “Mary’s Song” or “The Magnificat.” Application: Think of God’s past faithfulness. Mom’s you have children destined for great things. Is there anything too hard for God?

Spend time with, obey and worship the Lord - Audio
07/05/2023 Duración: 46minGuest teacher, Rick Rodgers, Pastor Rory's uncle, teaches on Joshua 5. In Joshua chapter 5, the Israelites had just crossed over to the Promised Land. The inhabitants of Jericho did not understand what was happening, but based on prior events, were afraid. Instead of an immediate assault, the Israelites circumcised their forces (a second circumcision since those of the first perished in the wilderness) as a symbolic standing with God. God removed the reproach of Israel that was upon them, the gift of manna ceased, and they now lived by faith. Outside the city, Joshua encountered a Man, a Man recognized as the Lord. In response, he fell on his face and worshipped. As leaders – we are all leaders – we must submit to God and worship Him. We can never be too big or busy to take our shoes off and spend time with the Lord.
