Officers transitioning out of the forces have been networking with potential employers at Scotch Corner. The Officers Association brought together service leavers from the Army, Navy & RAF with business contacts and social media experts at the free event. The charity was set up in 1920 to promote the welfare of commissioned ranks in HM Armed Services and their dependents. The ladies, some of whom haven't worked for sometime due to the transient nature of the services, were taught how to write a CV, network and tap into the unseen job market. An airman at RAF Leeming, with almost 40 years of service under his belt, has been recognised in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List. Flight Sgt Dean Bradley is the Service Community Support Worker at the station. His role primarily concerns housing & deployment. Training has been the main focus for 1st Battalion the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment in 2014. All three rifle companies have been overseas, there was a big exercise in Estonia and a historical trip to the battlefields of France. The tempo doesn't slow down in 2015 with a trip to Kenya in the first part of the year before the unit move to Akrotiri in the summer. A veteran of the Duke of Wellington’s regiment, who was mugged on Remembrance Day, has had his stolen medals replaced by an Army tailor. George Gill was attacked on his way to a service at the cenotaph in Keighley. Moved by the story Sgt Martin Mitchell decided to create replicas of the stolen articles. A former soldier who was wounded in Afghanistan has overcome the odds to walk again. Mark Harding was serving with 1st Battalion the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment when he was shot through the neck in a firefight. Despite being told by medical staff he may never walk again, the Army veteran was determined to regain his mobility. Mark now competes for Great Britain in dragon boat racing and is an ambassador for ABF - The Soldiers' Charity. Mark has been telling Chris Kaye about his military career at the Big Curry event in Munster Barracks.
