Army medics from Catterick Garrison have deployed to Sierra Leone to help combat the spread of the deadly Ebola virus. They departed from RAF Brize Norton on Tuesday morning and will join colleagues from 22 Field Hospital to prevent further outbreaks. The measure is part of a £125 million aid package from Britain. The commanding officer of 4th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland has been in Catterick Garrison to receive a commemorative cap. The piece of sporting memorabilia is dedicated to a First World War hero & professional rugby player called Thomas Steel. Sgt Steel enjoyed a brief spell as a professional before serving his country. Gurkha Company in Catterick Garrison has seen over 100 recruits pass out at a parade in Helles Barracks. Over 8000 individuals applied to join the British Army. Those numbers were filtered down with a series of selection tests in Nepal. The remaining candidates arrived in North Yorkshire at the start of the year to begin their military & cultural instruction.
